Gunsmithing Need a GOOD Gunsmith from Florida.

Hiya Guys,

I am a Brit in the market for a .308/7mm08/284win custom rifle. I have looked at the gunsmiths near to me in the UK and compared to the USA they are very expensive and more orientated around very heavy Benchrest target shooting rifles or Deer stalking and they charge an extortionate rate for the work they do.
I am really struggling to find a gunsmith with any experience making long range hunting rifles and have now started to look at the feasibility of getting a rifle made in the USA and picking it up whilst on Holiday there later this year.

I have an aunt that lives in Florida and I will be there in October-November this year so I need to find a good gunsmith in the Florida. Can you recommend one???

In addition, I have checked out the laws in the UK and according to British law I can purchase and bring a firearm into the UK with me, as long as I inform my local firearms team what I am doing and take my licenses with me, but will a gunsmith from the USA sell me one???

Are there any gunsmiths on here with experience in this field ???

STR- Suarez Tactical Rifles is highly regarded as a good long range rifle builder in Florida. Give them a call to answer the rest of your questions.

Also, "bugholes" here on the Hide is also in FL. I have heard he builds some nice rifles.

I just got my rifle back from him. I can't sing enough praise for him. Super guy to do business with. Customer service was extraordinary as well as his work.

If your Aunt is close to the Tampa area that is where Dana English has his shop. English Rifles is one of the best kept secrets in the rifle building community. It would be a very hard task to find a finer person than Dana along with his knowledge of how to build a rifle. I feel a call to Dana (1.863.832.3561) would be well worth your time.

make sure you print the laws from ATF's website that you can buy a firearm with your licenses from england. otherwise you'll have a hard time.

Be sure to check FL laws before you do the deal as well. Last I checked a non-imigrant (non-resident) alien could buy a rifle or shotgun in FL if they had a hunting license. However, I believe this may have changed in the last few years (post 9-11).
