Need a good rifle rack for the Jeep; a few options

Have a 97 TJ and take my rifles out in it to hunt and distance shoot. I recently started running into a problem when taking the larger, heavier, expensive bolt guns out in that I didn't like the fact that no matter how I positioned them they'd bounce/move due to the terrain I have to go over (see: desert and rocks). Don't mind so much for my carbine as it gets used a lot at night and has all sorts of dings and chips.

I am thinking about just taking the rear seat out as noone is ever going to fit back there anyways and the extra storage could be used to toss a hard-case or even have a semi permanent case fitted back there for any long bolt action rifles. Anyone know of any for jeeps that replace the rear set/cargo area; do these even exist?

Secondly, I'd like some sort of permanent mount for the front drivers side where I could keep an AR or AK upright (pointed at the sky) yet unlockable as well as not too obstructive if I want to get it out while sitting. Was thinking of something like what the police cruisers have that unlocks and your rifle comes out yet when its locked, its going nowhere.

Any ideas? I do not want rack that goes on the back of the seats or anywhere on the roll bars as I want it next to me yet still out of the way enough to where a passenger could sit in the passenger seat and not have an AR in their face or lap.

Lean the rifle up against the back of the passenger or drivers side seat. Put butt on the floor as tight to the back of the seat as you can. Bolt side of rifle out. Industrial strength velcro wrappped around the barrel and posts to the headrest. It would take a huge bump or bumps to dislodge rifle. I have been doing this for years and have never had one move. Good thing is you can do this with 4 rifles and still have leg room since it only takes up a couple of inches. Try it!.....you'll like it

You could find something under the seat to velcro the stock(butt end) if needed. I promise ya it works.

I got an 05 TJ as well. Long since tossed the rear seat too. The longer pelican case 1750 I think will fit perfectly on the rear wheel wells side to side. It's a bit of a pain in the ass to get it in an out if you have the top on. With it off I can slip it from the side. To secure it if I stopper anywhere I ran a chain around the case through the handle and looped it through the bracket the seat would lock into when you unfolded it. It's no where near secure enough to leave it for long times. But if I'm running in a gas station or something on my way to shoot I was comfortable with it.

I ended up getting annoyed of just getting the case in and out and picked up a bag from triad. Now I just toss it in there on top of whatever else I'm taking with me. Biggest negative to this I think is I can't really secure it. So I wont leave my jeep to go in a store or anything. Also I picked up one of those bungie nets that are meant to go over a truck bed and kind of rigged it up across the rear. Used stainless eye bolts in existing holes and used cheap little caribiner snaps from a hardware to hold the net to them. from and a rear though I ran some 550 cord across it to tighten it up. It wasn't really required just looked better. This helped a lot with the top off to keep things from bouncing around as much or any light junk back there from blowing out going down the highway.

that's the bag I picked up. It's padded well enough and my gun hasn't gotten dinged up at all beating around the trails and gas roads here.

For the permanent storage tuffy makes some options for you. I've never put eyes on the rear storage compartments so I can't vouch for size but I do have one of their center consoles and it's great. The big ones for the rear are expensive though man. They have several different models. Some deeper than others. I'll toss one up from quadratec to get you looking.
