Rifle Scopes Need a little help...(stupid question)

Mounted a couple scopes a little while ago and went to check to see if they were level at the range. They are not. Originally I mounted the scopes with a set of levels and I thought I had them dead on.

So, today I shot two rounds at the bottom of my target, dialed 5 mils of elevation, and fired two more shots using the same point of aim.

Scope 1 was 2 inches to the right of where they should have been if they were plumb. Scope 2 was 3/4 of an inch to the right from where it would have been plumb.

Correct me if I am wrong but I need to move them both counter clockwise (looking through them) to level them, correct?

Also how do I know how much to move each one?

If you're hitting to the right, you need to correct clockwise.

To figure out how much they need to be rotated will depend on their height above the bore line, as well as other factors such as the exterior ballistics. Knowing this information is probably irrelevant though, since there's no easy way to rotate a scope a specific number of degrees.

If you can, just use a more reliable method to level the scope, such as feeler gauges. If you're on two piece bases or something and can't do that, you can always bring all of the necessary tools to the range and just guess-and-check until it's good.

I tried the feeler gauges on one and couldnt get it right. The other scope does not have a flat base. Am I right in assuming the one that's only 3/4" off, just barely needs to be moved?

I would have guessed and checked today but I only had 20 rounds loaded up for today.

Yeah the 3/4" one doesn't need moved much at all. The other alittle more, but still not excessively. I would think that it would have been more noticable when setting it up. I use the feeler gauge method and it works, provided that you have a flat base on the bottom of the scope and a 1pc rail. I think I'd probably try to do it at the range and remember to tighten your ring screws up in a cross pattern to keep from pulling the scope one way or the other when you tighten it down. Goodluck
