Savage 116 FLHSS. Best suited to the Hunter role. A Tac/Sniper profile is probably less practical for best hunting employment. Add a Harris Bipod, and you have enough rifle for Tac/Sniper use. If your primary application is hunting, a Tac/Sniper rifle is likely more gun and more money than may be truly practical. The Hunter covers the Tac role better than the Tac covers the Hunter role, and the costs are preferable.
I have to assume the basic catalogued Savage models are reasonably available in Oz.
Personally, I'm pretty sure you can get what you need to do done with the .30-'06, .270 Win, or .280 Rem. The .300WM is OK, but if you're going to do much sustained firing, especially wth a Hunter-weight rifle, I think you'll find the .30-'06-based chamberings to be far more tolerable while still being fully adequate; and you will also get one additional round in the mag capacity. I prefer the .280, but the other chamberings will probably have more ammunition readily available off the shelf.
