I'm looking for a scope for a .308 Savage Precision Carbine. I don't plan on using it beyond 600 yards. I will be using it for low light shooting (targets and hunting), which is why I consider an illuminated reticle a necessity.

I'm trying my very best to keep this scope under $1000 because:

1. I'll probably never be able to utilize the real potential out of a more expensive scope (USO, NF, S&B).
2. It's a good cutoff point for my bank account.

A few of the scopes I've looked at that seem to fit the bill are:

Nikon Monarch X 2.5-10x44 Illuminated Reticle

Xtreme Tactical Scope 1.5X-6X-40mm (I've also looked at some of Burris's Euro Diamond scope w/ Illuminated reticles)

Sightron SIII 3.5-10x56mm w/ Illuminated German 4A Reticle (Though 56mm objective seems a little big to me)

So, I'm looking for opinions on these aforementioned scopes, and recommendations for others that I should look at.

Thanks in advance!

Weaver Tactical 4-20x50 Mildot, with Illum for $725. Ought to be a decent choice in that price range.

Updated - received one. NOT illuminated, website was wrong. Mine has 57 MOA elevation adj. about 56 windage, just counting turns of the knobs.

Glass is clear, and the knobs feel great. I'll try to get some range time on it next weekend. If I keep it.

Thanks for replies.

From advice I've gotten from this forum and another, I think I am leaning towards a Burris XTR. Now I need to decide between the 1.5-6x40mm and 3-12x50mm.

Do you think a 20MOA base would be required to fit the 3-12x50?
