Need advice on longrange cal.

I'm looking 2 build a longrange 1500yrd. + gun.
What would be the better of the 3:
260 Rem.
6.5 Creedmoor
300 Win. Mag.

I have a FN A3-G that I had put in 2 a McM A5 stock, that I don't shoot
offten. I thought I would put a 6.5 Bbl.(Rock Creek)On it. Then chamber it in 6.5 Creedmoor
or 260 Rem. Or just sale it and build a 300WM.
I shoot a 300WM (TRG 42)some times @ 1,500+. But, have no time behind
any 6.5 Creed or 260 Rem.
This gun would be used for shooting steel only, no hunting.
I was thinking, some one on here could help.
Any info would be helpful.

Caliber size helps spot your misses at extreme ranges.

Any of the listed calibers are fine for hitting steel that far out. I'd personally choose 300wm just because its slightly more standard and easy to find ammo and brass for. Just get what you like and learn to shoot it, they'll do fine.

300 for so many reasons. None of them being the other 2 are bad calibers just the 300 you have so many parts, pieces and choices. Like having a chevy 350 vs. a Ferrari. You can spend a lot on the Ferrari but the chevy will win cheaper.

More feedback is better. I'd build the 300. 208's make BIG splats at 1500 on steel. I can easily spot my own hits. And they make a lot bigger dust loud when you miss.

ETA: just saw the "+" part... of those three the 300wm will keep going well after 1500.

I'm thinking of rebarreling the FN in .260 Rem.
To shoot 1,000-1,400yrds.
But, some people are telling me that the .260 Rem.
Will not do it. And the .308 is a better setup ( will out shoot the .260 Rem.)
Is this true?
What is the capabilitys of the .260 Rem.?
They say the .260 does not have the ass to cut the wind, or the ass to carry it.
I thought it was all about the BC not the weight, perse'?
so, whats the real deal? I want to hear from people who shoot the .260
not," Internet snipers".

I shoot my .260 DPMS 24" out to 1200, 142gr sierra's and i have backed off velocity for brass life in a semi auto. A bolt can run hotter still. 123 can go faster still.

Got to say the 300wm is a better / same 2900 - 3100 with a 190gr just bucks the wind better and slaps the steel.

Yes,
I'm going to start a 300WM build in Dec.
The .260 is for 1,000-1,300yrds.?
It will be cheeper to load for than the .300,when shooting @
that range. The .300 is over kill @ 800-1100yrds.
We shoot the.300WM @ 1,500+. Somewhat of a poormans
.338LM.

Whatever the .308 does, the .260 does better. 'They' are obviously not shooting a .260, or they'd be changing their tunes right quick-like

As for going beyond 1200yd, can't say. I <span style="font-style: italic">do</span> know the .260's fine at 1Km (1100+yd) out of a 24", mine is now a 28" and I'd certainly make a try of it beyond 1200yd if I could find a place to do it here back East.

Same boltface, long action, try the .280. Just sayin'...

BTW, as a single feed, the .280 will work fine in a short action, you just need to pop the bolt release if you want to unchamber a live round. Empties <span style="font-style: italic">should</span> eject just fine. To prove that, try a .30-'06 empty in your .308. It won't chamber, but it should eject pretty good.

Regarding the .300WM. As ballistics go, unless you're looking to anchor Angry Mama Grizzlies DRT, the .280 looks a lot like the .300WM with a fair bunch less recoil to achieve the same trajectories. There's nothing manly about recoil, it just KO's you sooner the more you grab.

Does anyone have a table that gives a good summary for a wide range of calibers incl velocity/drop etc at varying distances? There are suggestions for calibers i've never considered and just want to get a brief summary of how they compare in broad terms thx

than the 6.5 Creedmore?
I picked it becuse, more case = more powder.
Good choice, or not?

If you have a frail body type ,go with the smaller calbiers. Personaly,I use the .300WM,and have no problems with recoil.

If you want a .300 Win Mag, and are frail in body type, you can always build a heavier rifle, unless you plan to be carrying it over long distances.

I definitely have a frail body type these days.

But I also believe that unless one is primarily looking to deliver high energy levels downrange, shooting a shoulderwhacker causes one to undergo unnecessary mayhem at the near end.

Shooter fatigue is a key factor in maintaining sustained accuracy during extended strings of fire. One of the key contributers to such fatigue is higher levels of recoil.

I can and do shoot rifles with significant recoil, one of my favorites being a lightweight M70/.30-'06 that I used to take 4th place in the 1997 NJ State Sniper Championships.

Since then, I have undergone some physical duress that has left me rather more frail than previously. My strategy nowadays is to interpose a rather hefty sandbag between the rifle's butt pad and my shoulder. This effectively multiplies the <span style="font-style: italic">system's</span> mass without actually adding any to the rifle. It a simplification of the Lead Sled's driving principle.

I I'm building a .300WM in Dec.
But, now I have the FN A3-G that I'm going to re-Bbl. In .260 Rem.
I have already got the ball rolling with Rock Creek Bbls. ( 10 week)
I I'm just trying 2 find out the capabilitys and limitations of the .260 Rem.
Out of a 28"Bbl. with a 8 twist. (139gr Lapua Scenar @ +/- 2,900 fps. )
1000-1400yrd gun?
1000-1200yrd gun? ect.

With a good muzzle brake, a 300wm is a pussycat. Mine kicks less than my soft shooting M1A while pushing 220gr SMKs at 2800fps.

The other day, I was shooting with a guy who'd had shoulder surgery and he was shooting his 308 bolt rifle and asked me how much my rifle kicked because he wanted to try it but, he was scared.

I shot his rifle and found that it kicked WAY more than my 300wm does.

With a good brake, the rifle will jump but, it won't push.

I won't way that the rifle doesn't jump at all but, I can say that it does NOT push at all. I will say that you absolutely never have to worry about fatigue shooting it... developing a flinch or anything else with it.
