I just picked up my first 22 trainer. It's a cz 455 tacticool with a Lilian barrel. I've heard 22s can be finicky with ammo so I am curious as to what you all are shooting.

I will be using it as a trainer mostly with a few competitions mixed in. Thanks in advance.

Start with the usual selections of premium 22 ammo.
Wolf Match (Lapua)
Lapua Center-X
RWS R50
Geco Match (RWS)
SK Match

In 22 ammo, accuracy and consistency are directly proportional to cost.

I have found that SK rifle match to be the most consistent from batch to batch. My experience and one of my fellow shooters was that Center X didn't shoot as well as Rifle match. Go figure. I have at times shot very good groups with SK Standard Plus but doesn't do it consistently. I couldn't get Eley to shoot consistent either. Some days great and some no so much. Both rifles I've owned liked the SK Rifle match though.

You'll have to do your own ammo testing. Its funny cause I have the exact opposite experience that Kansas has. Where Center-x has been the best shooting across 2 rifles. I'd buy a box each of the match grade stuff and see what your rifle likes, Eley, Lapua, RWS, SK, etc. Shoot a group or two and see how it performs. Then buy a boat load of that lot of ammo.

I appreciate the help guys! Now does anyone have any partial boxes of ammo that didn't work for them that they don't want before I go through the process of buying a millions boxes of ammo, haha.

It's so hard to ship ammo for an individual that it will be just as cheap to order it from someplace like Grafs. I ended up buying a brick of several (yeah that's kind of expensive) different brands/tier levels and lots. If I found something that didn't shoot very well I sold it at our local club meet to someone like you wanting to try different brands to see what shot best. Hopefully you find something cheaper than CenterX that shoots well. And hopefully you can find a brand/tier level that is consistent from lot to lot. Some guys are trying different lots then going back and ordering a case or cases of that same lot. I really didn't want to have to order a case to get the most out of my rifle.

Yeah tactical panda, I was hoping that CenterX wouldn't shoot the best. It was painful to pay $12 a box of 50 for the stuff.
