Re: Need an SKS barrel swapped out, it is threaded
I played around with SKS's about 10 years ago, swapping barrels, toying with different ways to mount the action to the stock, unitizing gas systems, all in an attempt to achieve greater accuracy. You can make an action wrench from tubing and lead, but it takes a little work. You start with a 1 1/2" section of 2 1/2" square tubing, sliced lengthwise, you have two C sections. Strip the action, bore a hole in a board just large enough for the barrel and hang the action, barrel down, through the board. Clamp the C sections around the action with an 1/8" thick strip of wood between them to form a gap between the halves, pour lead into the two halves. When cooled, place in vise, unscrew barrel.
