I just picked up an SPS Tactical in .223 to compliment my .308 bolt gun. I threw a little Nightforce 2.5-10X32 on top of it and took it out this weekend. I like the rifle and really don't think it NEEDS anything, but I did two things while shooting it. The first is that it hates 77gr projectiles and the second is that I hate loading those tiny .223 rounds into the internal magazine.

I want to go with a DBM, but after a bunch of research, I'm still confused about what I should go with. I think I know that I want to go with some sort of setup that uses the AI poly mags. From pics I've seen they look like they'll be easy to load (unlike the Wyatt's setup that I got for my .308). So...my question is, what DBMs are there out there that take the AI .223 mags?

Badger, APA, Hooper, Surgeon, CDI Precision, and Seekins off the top of my head. Anything that will take a 308 AICS magazine will take the AI poly mag for 223.

What stock are you using on your gun? I may be wrong, if you are using an HS Precision stock the only DBM I know that will fit is the CDI and you have to send the stock to him to have the aluminum bedding block milled for the CDI bottom metal to fit.

almost any stock can have DBM to fit it. You just have to have it inletted to fit. An HS stock can have any of the options mentioned above.

The rifle is still sitting in the Hogue stock that it came in. I would like to get a DBM that will just drop in, since I really can't justify having a DBM fitted to this stock. I think it was the Hooper than drops right in? I really haven't had a chance to check out all that have been mentioned. I'm really surprised that each respective manufacturer has little to no information about their products on their websites.

I went with the Wyatt's on my .308 and don't want to make that mistake again.

CDI for the price, fitting is minimal, and if you call Jeff at CDI,he can inlet the stock for the DBM at a good price and with a good time frame..All the DBM's require a certain amount of fitting in general.Wyatts is the only "drop-in" DBmetal I've heard of but is only in .308 platform ammo.Hope this helps,Goodshootin'
