Ok guys my buddy told me to post this its really killing me Ive found the platform that Im putting this on and everything but this is the only thing that's stopping me from continuing, this is what it is and please guys Ive searched and searched hours four months trying to figure this out so please don't say research more or check out the other forums because I already have that's why I'm asking you guys the pros lol this is my first bolt action rifle its going on a Remington 700 5r mil-spec .308 Ill be doing shooting hopefully after I learn how to shoot and use a scope out to 1000 yards no spotter and no run and gun just steel target at different yardage not all at once just different days like one day 300 yards the next 500 and so on, I'm also going to reload to improve my shots but I cant not choose between the two scopes because of the features between the the two, this is what I'm looking at I want to have front focal and mil mil scope so looking at the Leupold the ERT they are are $1700. Well if I'm spending money like that I should just go with night force, but with that price I don't get front focal and mil mil scope its like a extra $300 so if I don't get the mil mil I have to calculate mils to moa is it worth it and is it hard to do I never used a scope ever that's where it gets me let me know guys is it worth having the front focal on the Leupold mark 4 with the m5 turrets to match the TMR to have mil mil or just get the night force and calculate mils to moa and no front focal please help its killing me and please serious answer only thanks.

On a serious note, get the new SS 5-20x50 HD. Only $1000 with the Hide discount. Check the optics section for the thread with the discount. [/quote

That's hilarious! I am sorry that I have been that dumb ass a couple of times guys. I think that video will help me to fix the problem though. Funny...

Re: Need help choosing!! PLEASE

My first suggestion would be to start with a few more periods. Then, by breaking down your sentences into paragraphs, the intention of your topic at hand would be easily distinguished from the previous.

After that, remove the LOL and continue to type intelligibly about your needs rather than running off at the keyboard concerning topics that have not only been regurgitated 823 times, but answered.

[Also, to add, if you're not meticulous enough to construct a proper sentence, I urge you not to reload. One run-on powder pour can and will cause more damage than what is evident in your first post.]

Once all that has been taken care of, you'll have to consider if you're going to be making shots of undetermined distance in the field or are you going to be at a designated range, where all the calculations can be made from a proven load from your home. In which any ballistic software can get you on paper within a few shots; saving you hundreds if not a thousand dollars.

But hey, its your money, get the best one you can afford. And learn how to use it.

Re: Need help choosing!! PLEASE

You don't necessarily need MIL/MIL, you could go MOA/MOA. Also if you are only shooting at one distance at a time SFP will be fine. But if you must have FFP and MIL/MIL you could get a used Vortex Razor for around that price.

Re: Need help choosing!! PLEASE

I think miltnxc isn't serious. I don't think a person can actually be that stupid and if they are, God help us all. So I think that miltnxc put much thought into his first post just to give us a good laugh.

But..... I know I'm wrong

Re: Need help choosing!! PLEASE

Number 1: Relax!!!

Number 2: Really. Just try to form a cognitive thought and ask the question.

Number 3: The Luepold is a fine scope, but it is overpriced for what you get.

For about 1850 you can get an IOR 3.5-18 FFP mil/mil with digital illumination. A far superior scope with outstanding glass (comes with a very high quality set of rings)

For about 750 you can get a Weaver tactical 3-15x illuminated reticle FFP mil/mil scope.

For 850 you can get the Viper PST 4-16x with an outstanding list of features, though the glass is reported to be a LITTLE inferior to the Weaver.

Once again, the Luepy is a solid choice, so is the NF, but I am a FFP kind of guy and as you have already noted, the FFP NF is way more expensive.

Also available for 2000 is the Vortex Razor. MUCH more scope than the Luepy for not much more cash.

Bushnell makes several very fine FFP mil/mil tactical scopes.

Re: Need help choosing!! PLEASE

#1) I fixed this for you. I think spelling NAZIs are a lower form of life, but you at least have to make sense.<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: miltnxc</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Well it seems that I shouldn't have posted on here thinking some fucking loser <span style="text-decoration: line-through">were</span><span style="text-decoration: underline">was</span> going to help me<span style="text-decoration: underline">.</span> <span style="text-decoration: line-through">all</span><span style="text-decoration: underline">All</span> you guys do is sit in front of your <span style="text-decoration: line-through">computer</span> <span style="text-decoration: underline">computers</span> and read <span style="text-decoration: line-through">forums after</span>forums<span style="text-decoration: underline">,</span> get a life<span style="text-decoration: underline">.</span> I made <span style="text-decoration: line-through">a</span><span style="text-decoration: underline">an</span> account <span style="text-decoration: line-through">just</span> to get help but you guys are <span style="text-decoration: line-through">to</span><span style="text-decoration: underline">too</span> immature<span style="text-decoration: underline">.</span><span style="text-decoration: line-through">so</span> <span style="text-decoration: underline">So</span> never mind<span style="text-decoration: underline">,</span> have a nice life<span style="text-decoration: underline">,</span> <span style="text-decoration: line-through">go</span> get a girlfriend instead of spending <span style="text-decoration: line-through">hours after</span> hours on this stupid site!!! #2) Relax. Your temper tantrum is a little bit vagtastic.

#3) "LOL" is not the best method to drive a smiting point home after being picked on about your grammar.

#4) JUST BECAUSE YOU TYPE SOMETHING WITH THE "CAPS LOCK" ON, DOES'NT MEAN THE STATEMENT GETS ANY LOUDER IN OUR HEADS WHILE WE READ IT.

#5) My life is nice, and I have a beautiful girlfriend. But I thank you for your suggestions all the same.

Re: Need help choosing!! PLEASE

Miltnxc, welcome to the Hide. People bust balls here. It's the way it is but you will also get good info if you have thick enough skin to make it through a little hazing. Now relax, regroup and get back to question at hand. That goes for everyone.

Re: Need help choosing!! PLEASE

I do apologize if I offended anyone. The best advice I was given starting out was this.... Buy yourself a Super Sniper fixed 10X. Take the rest of that $1700 you mentioned and buy ammo. (good ammo) Next, read anything you can about the fundamentals of marksmanship and try to apply what you learn. Lastly, when someone with more experience then you gives you advice take it. Especially when you ask for the advice because if you don't they will eventually quit giving it. My 2 cents

Re: Need help choosing!! PLEASE

I agree with the Super Sniper. A novice shooter should spend his money on ammo learning how to shoot before he spends a house payment on optics. You probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference yet anyway. In a year maybe then you can look for a higher quality optic. You will probably figure out that you don't need one. Bottom line... shoot your rifle. Don't be like alot of the internet marksman on here that only bring out there rifle for pictures.

Re: Need help choosing!! PLEASE

I think you should get a Super Sniper scope (or similarly priced ranging scope) and spend the rest on airline tickets, ammo and fee's for a long range shooting school like Rifles Only. Dollar for dollar I think a shooter will gain more knowledge and experience rather than spending $2k+ on a scope that they are not 100% sure they want and following it up with being self tough. Thats not to say people who teach themselves with $2k+ scopes are not successful, just that generally speaking I think it is more cost effective to be taught by the professionals. This is what I am planning. I am putting the SS 5x20 (because it is on sale) on my 700 Tactical, HS Precision stock from a 5r Milspec, Badger rings and base and taking a shooting course before I buy a GA scoped with a NF,USO, SB etc. I am a noob as well. Check this guy out. Link-------->http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bc-2ql5l2V8 He is shooting @ 900 yards with not the best equipment and doing a fine job in my opinion. Just a thought.

Re: Need help choosing!! PLEASE

Nothing wrong with being told the right way to type! It makes reading a lot easier and helps the reader understand your needs. Its really that simple. There is no need to get your underwear in a bunch dude!

There is more info that can help here then worth getting pissed off at a few comments. Also if people chose to be on a computer 24-7 that's their choice. Then again what if that's not the case, and the guys that responded just happened to spot your "PLEASE" thread? Then decided to read but it was one giant paragraph that needed to be broken down.

Re: Need help choosing!! PLEASE

I was on this site for over a year before posting, these guys know ther shit, tons of good info on here, but sometimes the experienced lose patience with new guys and dumb repeated questions. I used the google search option and learned a lot, and I'm just barely brave enough to post now. And I bet sombody chews this up and spits it back me!!

Re: Need help choosing!! PLEASE

Hi,

Please take this with a grain of salt, but I speak from experience and with your best interests in mind.

This is your first rifle. You will not be satisfied with it. That's just the way it is. That's the way it was for all of us. You will want something different later. If you try and buy everything you think you want now, you're going to spend a bunch of money and have a ton of gear to try and sell later. Please see my current auctions on Gunbroker.com!

That said, just get something that will do for now, something to start with, something much more inexpensive than what you're thinking, and spend the money you saved on ammo. Lots of shooting experience is going to make so much more difference than anything you can buy. My suggestion would be to look on the used firearm section of this forum.

Buy a .308 with a scope that's already set up. I say 308 because you can get some crappy mil-surp ammo to learn the basics of shooting with. You don't need match ammo or $500 of reloading equipment plus countless hours of loading to learn how to control your breathing and press a trigger.

Forget all the stuff about the scope. If you're going to the range to shoot 300 that day, any scope will work. Later on, once you figure out what you want to do with your rifle, you will have a better understanding of what you want. Nothing you read or research will help you find what works better than going out and experiencing what doesn't work.

Get a bipod and fill an old sock with sand, poly-fill, corn cob media, whatever. Lay your butt in the dirt and shoot. Get a couple of snap caps. Have a friend or family member load your rifle, putting a snap cap somewhere in your magazine. Don't look. Don't cheat or it's useless. Shoot. When your crosshairs and your eyes stay dead on target when you press the trigger on a snap cap every single time, and you think you have a live round, you can start shooting the quality ammo.

Don't try to make this rifle be your ultimate thing. It won't be, and you will have spent all your money and be frustrated and disappointed. Get into the sport, learn to shoot, and THEN start working on what you really want. Trust me, you won't want the same thing then that you do now.

Re: Need help choosing!! PLEASE

I would also recomend the SWFA SS 5-20 HD, I just ordered mine a little bit a ago.

All the options you could want: FFP, mil/mil, ill., exposed turrets, only thing it doesn't have is a zero stop, which is coming soon I hear.

Almost everyone here can be harsh at times, if you took the time and hung out for awhile you would have know this.

Not that it's right for them to treat all new posters this way but alot of mall ninjas dumb asses come on here and ask a lot of dumb ass questions, and well people get upset at hearing the same type of shit over and over.

I really think everyone new to the Hide should have to take the time and read for at least a week before being allowed to post here.

I think I stood on the side lines reading for a month or two before I even made an account.

Shouldn't you be doing homework or trying to steal some of your dad's porn?

Seriously, you are the only one that can answer your original question. It might be worth spending another 1700 bucks and getting a nicer scope than Leupold makes to us, but to you it may not. Someone may really like having a MIL reticle and MOA knobs, you may not.

Now here I'm going to give you a link and if you read through several of the other links you will be able to answer your question. Just click on the link below.
If you click this link your gay, but you shall recieve the knowledge that you seek.

Almost forgot punctuation is the difference in: Helping your Uncle, Jack, off a horse. Or: Helping your Uncle jack off a horse.
