I put together a 10/22 and have been shooting it 3-4 times over the past week. All at 50yrds, variable ammo. Alot of the groups were more like patterns but I did manage to get a few in the .73 and .64 edge to edge ballpark. I am not ruling out it could be me but there seems to be zero consistancy from group to group (see attatched target photo). I tried a pressure pad in the barrel channel near the end of the forearm, tried one about a inch back from the forearm, also tried one in the barrel channel just infront of the v-block. I have tried different torque on the action screw and adjusted the tension on the rear hold down screw from zero to pretty tight (didn't have my torque wrench).
Target exhibit A, 50yd, CCI SV ammo, 1 layer of innertube for a pressure pad 1/4" from the end of the forearm:
Parts list:
Rifle is a older 10/22 action
Bolt has recently been headspaced, pinned firing pin and radiused
New PC hammer & hammer spring (eliminated light strikes)
Trigger plunger installed backwards (I was trying everything)
New Hi Desert Dog 16" stainless bull barrel free floated to the v-block but I did try various pressure pads in the barrel channel.
New Tactical Solutions 15 MOA scope mount (yes it's tight)
New Tasco 6-24x scope
Weaver rings (yes they are tight)
Rhineland Arms Leopard stock with rear lug hold down bolt (not bedded)
Some other notes:
One thing I am concerned about is the inlet of the stock. For whatever reason my barrel wants to go left. I thought maybe it could be caused by the rear screw so I tried shooting with it loose..no difference if it was tight or loose. With the innertube in the barrel channel it stays pretty straight but I'd think it could be putting side pressure on the barrel..
Ammo used:
Remington target (yellow box, blue label..not the Eley stuff)
Winchester T22 target
Wolf match
SK standard plus
Eley black box
Aguila something a guy gave me at the range
CCI SV
