Hey guys, Brand new to the forum because I'm looking for some information and I believe this is the right place to find out. Recently i obtained a CheyTac rifle in a deal and I don't really know too much about it. There is no model number on the rifle that i can see, the only designations that is has are "CheyTac USA Dillon MT, LER LAP MAG SN 1045" on the left side of the receiver. The rifle is chambered in .338 Lapua Mag, I've done quite a bit of searching online the best I could and cannot seem to find that CheyTac has ever made a production .338 Lapua, That being said it does have a threaded Lawton barrel. The case i received the rifle in has two stickers on it that say "The .408" on it, Basically I'm just looking for someone to give me a little more information about what I have, Is this a custom made rifle or am I sitting on a rifle that had a very short production and just cant find information on. I'm no stranger to the shooting world but I am rather green when it comes to high end rifles and long distance shooting. Any help would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance.

Hi,

The rifle is a Lawton barreled action sitting in a McRees precision chassis.
I forgot the model of the Lawton receiver (I think like 7000 or something; because the 408CT receiver was 8000).

Nothing on that rifle was actually made by Cheytac....all was made on OEM basis for Cheytac.

Sincerely,
Theis

Thanks for the info! Definitely seems to make more sense now, any idea on the age of the rifle? Common or uncommon? Trying to determine if this will be a rifle I plan to keep and add to my collection or part with

Hi,

Contact Scott McRee and have him look at the chassis and the "Cheytac" markings...he should be able to pin down the time frame of the rifle since he was good friends with Barney Lawton, along with making that chassis for Cheytac.

I am guessing around the 2006 time period because the chassis is not their Gen 1 model.

Sincerely,
Theis
