I have been searching around for a new piece of glass and i am between the Leupold Mark 4 ERT M5A2 6.5-20x50 34mm tube and Eotech Vudu 5-25x50. I would like to hear from people that have spent sometime behind either one of these scopes. I have some S&B PM2 5-25, Luepold Mark 4 and Mark 6, Nightforce NXS and Vortex Razor Gen 1. My goal is trying to determine the better glass between the 2 and reliability. Also both are about the 1200 dollar mark which I am trying to stay around because this is for my niece. PS I have heard the glass in the M5A2 is better than a traditional Mark 4, not sure if that is true. Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks Tom

If you look around the classifieds there are some used nxs and razor gen ii for about $1400-$1600. I would definitely look into that, also there are used Schmidt and benders around 2k give or take a little.

I like my Ares ETR, and grateful Doug will do you a solid deal, but be aware that my ETR has a very tight eye box. I see that this is for your niece, and I don’t know her level of experience. If she is a newer shooter, that eyebox may be frustrating. Just my .02, ymmv.

Man, thank you guys for the input. I believe I am going to look for a used Nightforce. I always try to set a budget for her guns/scopes and it always gets bumped up a little, Im guessing most guys here have that problem lol

The Leupold M5A2 is an excellent scope. It’s better than the NXS series. However the turret system on it is not friendly.

If I had $1500 to spend, it would be either a Leupold Mark 5 or Athlon Cronus BTR, no questions about it.
