I am fixing to have a rifle built with a carbon fiber barrel and stock and need some input on caliber. This will be an all around light weight hunting rifle for whitetail, coyotes, and hogs.

The 6.5 PRC has my peaked my interest but is really new to me. I’ve always wanted a 6.5x284 but the PRC has me second guessing that.

Calibers I already have:

.223
22/250
.243
.257 wetaherby
6.5 Creedmoor
.264 win mag
.270
.280 AI
30/30
.308
.300 win

I’m thinking Swaro Z6 for glass but open to other suggestions.

I’m just wanting something different than what I already have. I may need up looking at the 7mm08 because I have the 6.5 covered pretty well.

7mm 08 is a great round. It's my understanding that the AMax bullet performs very well. I do not recall the weight of the bullet.
Good luck with your build, it's always a very exciting venture.

I’m supremely happy with my 6.5 Creedmoor built by DMR LLC

- Proof Sendero 24” w/ Q Cherrybomb
- Surgeon Action w/ MCS DBM mini chassis
- Manners elite MCS-PRS2
- Triggertech trigger
- Vortex AMG, Seekins rings

Capable of taking bigger game; Whitetail, coyote, and hogs are easy w/ 6.5 CM and you’re not gonna destroy meat unnecessarily on deer. Good bullet selection, good price, good ballistics. Good price = more training.

You can always build another in a bigger caliber later if you feel like you want to(y)

I’ve already got an APR built in 6.5 Creedmoor. That’s a fine looking rifle btw.

Def go with that 7-08, used the 7RM as my main rifle for years....then got a T3 in 7 08 to "try" and well yeah....its what gets grabbed when that time of yr rolls around. An has been used with good success, the trijicon 3-9 on top makes it easy to carry and does great in low light. You can load it from 100 on the light side for varmints up to 162's if you want.
.
My latest loading is with the 145 grand slam

What about a 25-06, 6mm or 7-08 also depends on if you just want to kill the coyotes or you want to save the fur.

I’m not worried about the furs just busting yotes when I see them. I do want a 25-06 and may end up doing it on this build.

You literally have everything, even more than you need. Do you just want to add something different?
I agree, what about a fast 6mm? Also, 7-08 is something not on your list and maybe a decent option. Good luck and let us know what you decide on.

I just want something different. I am fully aware I don’t need anything:).
