Advanced Marksmanship need help with 600yrd, dope.

first time taking the 308 to 600yrds, this is a stock rem 700 v.s. 26"" 1-12 twist, with tps 20 moa. base,and a weaver tac. grand slam 3x10x40 scope. had her out to 300yrds. today, zeroed in at 100 it took 1.3 mills at 300. the hand load I'm using is win. cases, 43gr. of varget, fed.210m primers, 175smk. I don't have a cronograph. some inside expertise would be greatly appreciated, as I am not that computer or elec. gizmo savey. I'm just starting to make the switch to the mil/mil system. thank you. you can pm me if you want to.

Longer distances will tell more with the load you have. I use 43 of IMR4064 at 2675-2700. At 0 DA, you are looking at 4.6 for 2650 and 4.4 at 2700. Run 4.5 and start from there.

thank you mark, the load shoots nice at 100&300. I just needed a starting point for 600 to get me on paper, then I can fine tune from there. the hard part is trying to find a good safe place to shoot for extended distance to work on my dope chart.

I agree with Mark.

I shoot 43.5gr IMR 4064 with 175's and get 2750 out of it. my dope at 300 is 1.2 and 600 is 4.2

4.5mils should be a good starting point for you.

thanks guys, went out today to give it a try, the only place I can find to shoot at 600 locally was surounded by all the farmers working their fields so I could not shoot. plus we had a full value cross wind gusting 20-25 mph. at times across open fields. I would really like a calmer day to pinpoint the first time.

Work the wind! If you can also set up your position at different angles as well so you can practice different wind vales. When on a range, you can only work that wind angle present.

limited to my direction of fire,straight down an access between two fields with a six foot birm or dike for a back stop. I have to play the wind as it comes also, more fields on the other side of the dike. the field looks kind of like the state of texas except for the access road where I can shoot laying in the edge of the field to 600yrds. Have lasered out to 450yrds max with 223 shooting 55gr. nbt. and 55gr. vmax. I can shoot half way down access,90 degree's from left to straight out. been hunting ground hogs with 223 making up dope card from point of fire out to 450yrds. following contour of field with dike following field for a back stop. I hope that makes sense, the dike follows the contour of the field. The 223 is a 700 pss with the same scope on it. it's cheeper to shoot and hunt g-hogs with and to get the feel of the mil/mil system. I have rocks set up at the base of the dike along the edge of the field at varrying distances out to 450yrds. thats what I've been training with. the straight shot down the lane is the only place I feel safe with the 308 with the dike being the highest there for a back stop. the 223 has been a challenge in the wind with the 55 grainer's. thanks for the help guys, I'll let you know how it works.
