Gunsmithing Need help with inletting CID DBM into McMillan m40a1 stock

First, please excuse me if I use the wrong terms.

I have a rem 700 that I want to drop into a McMillan htg stock. I bought the stock used. it is pillar beddded and has a very nice bedding job. I would like to see how it shoots before i go to the expense of a full bedding job. It may not need it or a skim bed may do.

I believe my bottom metal is cdi. It is inletted for a standard box magazine. I have a local smith who does general gun repair.

He says that he is going to have to seat the bottom metal very deep into the stock for it to feed.

Can anyone provide pictures of bottom metal installed in a similar stock? Any other suggestions or advice.

I don't have any pics as of yet, but I just installed a cdi on my a5 and I had to inlet it pretty deep (compared to badger, ptg, ect.) in order to get it to feed properly. Its below flush, but I did a devcon fill around the edges to blend it and now it doesn't look too bad. But then again I tend to lean more towards function over looks.

First you need to figure out exactly which bm you have. Follow the mfg instructions as to depth. All dBm come with pillars, those pillars determine the depth of the bm. If the stock already has pillars mill the stock pillars from the bottom to match the pillar dimentions that came with the bm and you should be good to go

If its a cdi bm, they don't come with pillars and you'd have to buy or machine a pair to go with them
