To complete my GAP M40A3 rifle I need to purchase the correct S&B Scope for it. As we know, the S&B M8541 is not available for purchase. I recently contacted S&B and asked what civilian/commercial available scope is closest to the M8541? They promptly replied and told me that their 3-12x50 PMII L/P “Military” model is the closest. It is identical in every way to the M8541 except for two things: The markings and the reticle. Rather than the Premier Heritage Gen 2 Mil-Dot reticle the “Military” model has the S&B PF4 Fine reticle and the markings are S&B as opposed to USMC with the NSN.

Here is my question: By reviewing all of the available S&B reticles it appears to me that the P3L Mil-Dot illuminated reticle most closely approximates the Premier Heritage Gen 2 Mil Dot reticle.

It is my feeling that the closest scope currently available on the commercial market from S&B to the M8541 is their “Military” model with the P3L Mil-Dot reticle. I hear a lot of discussion and praise for the PF4 Fine reticle but have not heard much discussion on the P3L Mil-Dot reticle. I know there are a few S&B knowledgeable folks on this board and I was wondering what your thoughts are on this issue? How similar or dissimilar is the P3L compared to the PH Gen 2 Mil-Dot?

Thanks

You might check to see if the Klein reticle is available. Except for some variations in line thickness, it's almost identical to the Gen II, with dots on marks one mil apart and hashmarks halfway between the dots.

This is what you are proposing to choose

¨

it a non lit reticle and pretty much standard mildot

and this is the P4f

I have only played wit the gen 2 ret in Premier scope but besides that I think that the P4f does make fore the better stand in for the real deal,

my 2 cents.

If I couldn't get the Klein, I'd choose the P4f next. The P4f is a wee bit thin IMO, but it's not a deal breaker, and is a very user friendly reticle.

Well pay no attention to what I say, but rather what mr J Rose states,

I have a ilum mildot in my Hensoldt and yes there is nothing wrong with it, just that I like my P4f better,

either way really you are about to have some good optics around to shoot with.
