Let's try again as I didn't realize my supporters status hadn't gone through. I'm trying to find when this rifle was made and a value on it. It's from the Remington Custom Shop and the original case is marked as a 40-XS Rifle Only. It appears to be one of the early Remington 40-XS Tactical System 308 rifles but I can't find anything on value. It's got a McMillan stock and a 24 Inch stainless HB that is factory threaded with a factory muzzle brake. I've been able to find a couple of pictures of this rifle in 338 Lapua but nothing in 308. Any help on positive identification and a value would be appreciated. I apologize for the post earlier and honestly thought my supporter payment had went through. Thanks in advance.

Hey, is this thread dead? Have you found out more about your rifle? I have the same rifle, there's a label on the case says R&D Rm, so I suspected that it was a "shop rifle" before Remington went bankrupt. It would be nice if a former Remington employee could shed some light on it.

Mine didn't come with a soft case like yours, it had foam in the case and a Remington gun sock. The guy saved all the tags and cards from all the stuff that he put on the rifle. The scope was gone though.

If you google Remington 40-XS, there are a few articles pop up. stating what the rifle would come with, I am sure you have read that, one article is from the DOJ. I don't think Remington built a lot of them back in the days, mine is a 308 with no muzzle brake like yours, came with a Turner sling, bipod, and Badger scope mount, the label called it a "system". I have a Remington Defense catalog with this rifle in it, when I have time, I'll post the picture.

NRA match rifle, "across the course" competition. 20 shots slow-fire standing offhand, 20 shots, 200 yard rapid-fire standing to sitting, (2, 10 shot strings) 20 shots, standing to prone (2, 10 shot strings) 300 yard prone rapid-fire, 20 shots 600 yards prone slow-fire Clip slotted drilled and tapped for "Iron sights" Redfield's, Warner etc. For 200 & 300 yard rapid fire you loaded with stripper clips.

Mine does have a muzzle brake. It did come with the Badger scope base. I read DOJ article. Wish there was some way to place a value on it.
