Been toying with the idea for some time now. They aren't getting any cheaper so I'd better make up my mind and buy.
I'd like recommendations on an add on night vision device for my existing day time scope. OR a NV scope that I can sight in and shoot during the day then "turn on" and use at night as well (don't know if these exist or not).

Also would like info on green laser illumination. Does it work?? Does it give away your position??

Before everybody recommends $5000 optics - my budget is $2000-$2500

Id get an ENVIS from Aurora tactical. the tubes are very good commercial grade and a bargain. Gen 3 and good behind a dayscope with extra IR

Or TNVC has these litton scopes 2.5x mag with Gen 2 tubes with 50lpmm performance. about $2000. These are not as good as European Gen 2 but for the money perform very nicely.

OR get a 2nd hand D740 or some other gen 3 optic

How about those laser designators? I was looking through the Midway catalog and noticed ND-5 by laser genetics. It mounts above scope, claims to illuminate out few hundred yards; $300.

My first year into Illuminated reticles, VX-3L & an Acog; no going back for sure for hunting right at dusk. We have a few ARs and I want something for night hunting; dark most the time here in Alaska this time of year anyway. Actually have wolves coming in at the house and need something to light up target area at 100 yards.

Anybody ever use one of these lights?

How about the laser illuminators

On a serious note though, green lasers are great, but they will nuke your image intensifier tube quicker than shit! Way too bright bro.

2. Be patient and try to find some used PVS14s (might be a stretch)...or pony-up a couple hundred bucks more and get one with a mono-loc.

I don't think you are going to find a suitable day/night scope in your range...I know I never liked them anyways to be honest.

</div></div>In my opinion, Victor's Da'Torch IR illuminator is the best bang for the buck...and probably about the best thing anyways.

I would stay away from Aurora Tactical. They are thieves. I tried to purchase a AN/PVS-14 from them since they had the best price. I ordered it over the phone second day shipping and they said they would send me a tracking number by email and it would ship insured. The payment went through and I never recieved a tracking number. I called and never could get an return call with tracking info. Over a week went by and I was told it should be there and recieved terrible customer support. Phone calls not returned and was told it was shipped and it was no longer their concern when I finally got in touch with them. They did not insure the unit when they shipped it. I never did recieve the unit and it took about 3 months to get most of my money back. Which my bank threatened legal action against them for fraud if they did not refund. Still out about $200 dollars they claimed shipping when I was quoted $20 for shipping. They are thieves and liars with terrible customer service. I finally purchased a set of night vision locally and sold my AN/PVS-7 set. Stick with a known dealer. TNVC is who I would recomend.
