The powers that be are interested in our team getting a 50 cal. Had one of the State team guys bring out thier Barrett. Older gun, bullpup bolt action, I think they got it in 97. Ran about 2 min groups, with an off brand of ammo. I understand the AI verion is a lot more accurate, but we were leaning towards a semi. Any experiences with the 50 please chime in. Also interested in ammo. What shoots good and what should we stay away from. Not going to be handloading, just buying factory stuff. Primary use is for stopping or shutting down vehicles.

Re: Need some 50 cal rifle and ammo info.

I work at a gun shop in Colorado Springs that sells and demos big bore guns. 50's specifically. If you don't mind a single shot, the Armalite AR-50 is a very accurate gun. It is simple, cheap(for a 50) and the muzzle break is far enough from the shooter that you don't get beat up too badly.

The Barrett 107 or 82/A1 is the most pleasant to shoot. Mainly because of the reciprocating barrel and the angle of the gas break. The gas moves away from the shooter best with this rifle. But it is costly and not a accurate.

The most accurate .50 that is also pricey but is the best is the McMillan TAC-50. Best of both worlds.

Your best ammo for the price is American Eagle XM33 660gr BMG.

Good brass and very accurate without buying Barrett ammo.

Hope this helps
