Looking at the Steiner T5Xi 5-25 and Burris Tactical Elite 4.5-30 XRS-II for my first custom build. Will use in comps and just ringing steel for fun. Are they fairly equal in quality and clarity or is one clearly superior?

FYI the Tactical elite is a Bushnell product, not Burris.
Burris does, indeed make a 5-25 though.
I don't have experience with those models, but I do own a Bushnell LRTSi 4.5-18, it is a dandy scope, especially for the price.
There has supposedly been an improvement in the coatings in the new Elite Tactical line.
I am leery of the Steiner. I was excited when they announced them, when they finally began shipping, there were significant problems, which they at first denied. They finally admitted shit was wrong and fixed any scope sent in.
Supposedly, the new ones are GTG, but I am skeptical.

FWIW, Burris customer service is excellent. I use one of the earlier 3-15 XTR II's. The glass is underwhelming, but the damn thing works well. They might have tweaked the coatings or the quality of the grinding, as newer scopes reportedly have somewhat better glass.

FWIW, the sightron SVSSED 4.5-24 is worth a look, they should be releasing models with a zero stop early next year. Excellent glass, excellent reticle, excellent illumination
