hey guys im looking at getting a remington 700 not sure what to get . what should i look for in a rifle , barrel twist and so on and so forth ? the two rifles im looking at is the 700 sps or the 700 XCR Long Range Tactical Rifle

Re: need some help guys

if you can afford the XCR and are able to find one available, then I would go with that. It is very accurate out of the box, IMO. The twist rate is 1:12". What is your purpose for the stick? The XCR comes in a 26" barrel so for some, it is not as maneuverable out in the field, but that is another topic for discussion. The XCR also has a slightly better trigger than the SPS (at least when I compare it to my SPS 243). Drawback of the XCR is cost. It is almost double the cost of an SPS.

yea i decided to go with the sps i just picked it up today theres really not all that much difference between the two and the price is double i just cant see spending so much for it .

Good choice, best bang for the buck. Now you have a great platform to work with as well. Down the road put a good stock on it and bed it in, then have the rec. trued & bolt lapped, and then have a good match barrel put on. Before you know it you have a top notch rifle! (And have spent all your money.)

What has worked for me. I figure out what the max. amount of money I have to purchase a rifle. Then I go about getting the best rifle for the money I have to spend. Quite a few times I have to make the required sacrifices for more money in the rifle fund. The other tactic is to pick out my "wish" rifle then save until I get the price. I find that it is cheaper to get exactly what you want the first time.
