Here's the deal...this is a used Model 70 300 Win Mag i picked up pretty cheap...everything looks good but this...
These lines appear only on the bottom half of the bolt and in the receiver...im guessing a result of machining???
what is it and what is the fix?

Re: Need some help....what is this?

so if I blueprint the action will that clean this up? Or does that consist of mostly blot face work.
Will anyone suggest a good smith to do the work? Havent setteled on a barrel yet....

Re: Need some help....what is this?

It won't touch that unless the action is reamed oversize which will then require an oversize bolt.I blueprinting the action is setup with the central bore running true and the barrel threads, locking lugs and reciever face are trued. Then the bolt is set up and the bolt face and lugs trued. After all this you generally fit a new barrel and bed it in a good stock.

You could probably smooth the marks out, BUT

It ain't broke.......

I have F@@@ed more stuff up fixing things that work fine than you could shake a stick at.

Also remember KISS is not putting your lips on your rifle....

Re: Need some help....what is this?

Roger on the KISS and if the phrase about it being broke.
No need for oversize bolt either...
Probably just gonna barrel and stock this thing and see how it turns out.
