Bought a new Sako TRG 22A1 in a 26 inch 308 barrel. Plan on mounting up the scope when I get some rings and doing a little shooting. I have been told that it is a TRG barreled action in a chassis. I do like it a lot. I would like to get another barrel or 2 made up for it so down the road if I would want to change it or to another caliber I could do that. Am I going to need to stick with a steel barrel for these or is their somebody that can also make up a carbon fiber barrel for it also. I know it seems all these Finnish type rifles have a special chamber shank size diameter it seems like. Who out their can I use to make me some barrels that has experience with these and can a carbon fiber barrel be used on these? Any help or guidance would be a big help. Is there a picture thread in the forums anywhere on these rifles to check out and do some reading on?

    Thanks

There are probably others out there but Proof makes slightly smaller diameter shank blanks that would work. Not knowing how much clearance there is in the chassis, you may well be able to use a 1.2” or even 1.25” if it fits. (Meaning Bartlein’s carbon blanks might be a possibility if you have the necessary clearance)

    Benchmark carbon MTU will fit.

So the TRG can use a 1.20 shank? It does not have to be smaller like the Tikka or standard Sako rifles?
The common shank size of 1.25 is more of a problem than 1.20 from what i recall. Its a metric conversion so it might be ± a tiny amount, but the 1.20 is pretty close to 1.18 (30mm). This is off top of my head so maybe someone can double-check the math.

Will it mate up to the receiver correct with no hang over at the edges. I would like to order a Bartlein carbon fiber barrel this week for it.
the TRG-A1 retains metric spec, ie its technically I believe 30mm, or 1.18in...
...so your overhand is possibly ~20 thou's...not a showstopper in other words.

The good folk at Bartlein have helped me out with my TRG and a CFW barrel.
With a 1.20” shank shouldered you’ll have a small “over hang”.
Bartlein now do a CFW Tikka 1.13 shank, Bull Sporter profile that I use on my Sotic and TRG, tho I’ve converted my TRG to KRG’s barrel nut system. My next barrel for the TRG will be CFW Green.
With an open forend and QR Spuhrs it’s a fast and simple barrel change.
