Is new win brass that has been neck sized (considering how dinged up they come..) ....are they more accurate or as accurate as fireformed brass for that gun? I'm not to convinced that new brass is as good.

All new brass becomes used brass

Re: new brass vs. used

A lot depends on how many times they have been sized. And how much they were sized in. The work hardening of the case necks will cause them to loose neck tension quicker.

I prefer to just full length size at the very minimum needed for that chamber. My bushing dies are mostly with a -.002" bushing.

Re: new brass vs. used

i'm talking about using a new brass once compared to a once fireformed round for that rifle....
Can I expect a new brass to shoot as accurately out of my rifle(not the shooter...) as a fireformed round?
Concentricity, shoulder bump, properly neck sized on a fireformed...etc..

Re: new brass vs. used

CST, from past experience with .243 Win., fired from a Sako varmint weight barrel, new brass from Norma (i used Norma ammo & brass exclusively in that rifle) shot very similar to a factory loaded round, where accuracy is being tested against a case that was once fired and reloaded was found to be very little difference, when i gave that rifle to my Son, i also gave him all my collected data, but to the best of my recollection the difference between new brass and once fired was of minor significance, on paper, the groups were all within 1/2" of each other, (meaning new brass vs once fired, in fact new brass vs 10X fired brass) i was still popping Commiefornia ground squirrels at ranges of 50 to 350 yds. the majority were in the 150 to 200 yds.

Re: new brass vs. used

I have compared my standard load with new and fire-formed cases, and cannot say one shoots any better than the other.
I did not notice any difference in group sizes, scores, or drop data.

Its been a long time since any new brass went through my gun. I'm up on reload cycle 24-25 of Win brass and it continues to shoot well. All this brass was treated to an extensive match preperation, and goes through an extensive set of checks during each reload cycle.

I would not say new brass is bad (or good), so much as fully match preped brass is beter (whether fireformed or not).
