Hello all, I've been reading these forums for a few months now and decided to make an account after realizing...well I didnt have one

.

A bit about me, Im currently stationed in Afghanistan. I joined the military when I was 17, now 20. Im based out of Alaska, and love every minute of my career. Im a quick learner, military brat, and willing to listen.

Im working on this build currently with my buddies back home helping with research and would also like your input.

Rifle

Savage Model: 10 Precision Carbine; Accustock/AccuTrigger. And DBM system. .308 of course.

Savage Model: 11 Long Range Hunter; Accustock/AccuTrigger. No information on Magazine but appears to have DBM system also. And .308 26" barrel.

Rings

SWFA SS Rings, Or any recommendations?

Scope

SWFA SS 16x42 Tactical Riflescope

Stock

Stock accustock until the new AICS arrives.

All in all, it should be a budget starter rifle. I plan on using it to punch paper at the local ranges, and after I feel confident enough there are always local amateur competitions here in Alaska. Appreciate any and all tips.

Re: New Build

I'd greatly consider a Rem 700 over a Savage, so many more options for aftermarket parts, stocks, triggers, etc.

All else looks good, I might take it down to the 10X SS so that should you decide to hunt with it you might stand a chance at finding game in the scope quickly.

I appreciate you replies, I also took that into consideration when researching rifles. I have personally handled many Rem 700's and the only one I felt was worth the green was...

It felt good, crisp, and was damn accurate with my buddies 3.5-10x40 Leupold and whatever reloads his crazy self cooked up in his shed.

Im still leaning towards the Savage.
