Hey all,

Started my 10-day waiting today when FedEx delivered to my FFL, and I went in to get the paperwork done. Unboxed and checked it out, and what a good looking stock in person!

But, one thing I noticed that was a bit concerning is that the barrel isn't concentric on the forestock groove; it's obvious, and a bit annoying. Could something have shifted in transit? The barrel and stock don't touch, slid a sheet a paper all the way down no problem. But why wouldn't there be better centering of the barrel and stock?

I was unfortunately in a hurry - FFL is 30 min from home, and I had to get there and back in time to go to Christmas Eve mass. Anything I should examine more closely when I return in 10 days?

Thanks and Merry Christmas / Happy Hanukkah,
Chris

Chris,

It seems normal. I got one a few weeks ago too, and I noticed the same thing you did. If you loosen the action screws, you can realign the barrel and stock. I think it’s just the tolerances in the stock and action screw holes.

I’m working on modifying my CZ rifle for PRS/NRL22 base class competitions. Let me know if you are planning to do something similar. I can share more.

You may want to 'shim' the action a bit after you find how much changes when you do as @PW said. I just use 'real' duct tape, the metallic stuff, to help align it. This will 'snug up' the action for added benefit towards accuracy.

Thanks for the confirming replies, all.

@PrecisionWerk, would love to follow along. Quick back-story: I'm on the steep part of the learning curve with precision rifle; my 16 y.o. son is the main shooter in the family, starting his 4th season of trap shooting. But he has expressed an interest in rifle, and so the MTR is "for him" Though I've been doing a deep dive as well, but I'm more experienced in handgun shooting / comp at my local range. We have the space to setup 50 and 100yd targets on our property. But lots of rifle fundamentals to learn. I know punching holes in paper won't hold his interest for long, so looking at gong targets (Atlas) right now, and other dynamic things we can do.

*having trouble getting the pic to attach

For anyone wondering what this looks like, here is a picture of my rifle. It was confirmed unloaded and bolt out before I took this pic.

OP - my advice for this rifle - test action screw torque to see if you have a sweet spot. I had my pillars replaced with aluminum ones, and I torque to 25in-lbs. the factory should be that value or lower, I would guess. I would avoid anything that is not repeatable as a bedding material (foil tape may work if it is sturdy, duct tape would compress). And I have a very pronounced cold bore shift on my rifle. I can eliminate it by using a bore cap or finger cot between stages. The rifle is exceptionally accurate and a great value, in my opinion.
