Hello everyone.

I have been lurking for a while now. It seems whenever I am researching a product or looking for advice, I end up here so I figured its about time I join. My name is Matt. I live in Southern California though I will likely be moving to Texas (or possibly Arizona) in the near future.

I just started shooting "precision" guns about 2 weeks ago when I got my new Remington 700 SPS-V .308 built enough to go try it out. So far all I have done is add a Seekins Precision base and 30mm low rings, SWFA 10x42 mil/mil scope, Timney trigger and Harris BRM-S. A friend is giving me a Hogue stock he took off of a SPS-Tactical but I haven't received it yet. I know I need a chassis/stock very badly, but I am still doing some research on which to choose. A better scope is in the cards as well.

I went shooting that gun for the first time about 10 days ago and have gone 3 times since then. The furthest I've shot was 500 yards with it and I am hooked. Here is an example of a group I shot on the first day after zeroing the scope. This is with Lake City 149gr bulk ammo. I don't have digital calipers yet, but I know that diameter of a quarter is 0.955" so I'm estimating about a 1" group. Have some better ammo on the way as it is impossible to find within reasonable driving distance of my house or work for less than $2.00/rd.

I also have a Sig Sauer 516 Gen 2 piston driven AR15 (as well as several other miscellaneous firearms). I had all kinds of fun with that gun before I got the 700, but now, I realize that precision shooting is my main shooting interest. That being said, I am seriously considering selling the AR to begin funding a precision gas gun build. Thinking maybe the GAP 10. I could finish the 700 while I wait the 6-10 months(?) for it to arrive. Any advice on this would be appreciated.

I am also getting reloading equipment next month. I talked my wife into getting it all for me for my birthday so I have to wait.

Anyways, thank you all for all the good content on this site. I hope to continue learning. Maybe I'll know enough to contribute one day.

Thanks,

Matt

You have everything you need, don't go buying chassis/stock or anything else. Buy ammo, and some good instruction. You can give the best rifle in the world to someone, but if they don't know how to drive it, it doesn't matter.

Welcome.
