Another Masshole heard from here.

Believe it or not, eastern Mass and southern NH have some of the most active and accomplished rifle shooters in the country. All of of the KD matches in the area are open to the public and run almost every weekend from April thru October.

If you’re looking for PRS style matches, the MMPRL league is growing by leaps and bounds and will be a PRS regional series next year (I think). There are currently five 1000yd ranges in the league, and all of them are within 3 hours of Boston.

Check out www.mmprl.org

I’m also happy to answer any more questions you may have about rifle shooting in New England.

Thanks DaveM,
I’ll take a look MMPRP. What i’m hearing is that I should start entering matches/competitions. Any advise for a first match or just jump into the fire?

Get accurate dope for your rifle and ammo combination at as far a distance as you can. You’ll want some higher quality ammo than you have pictured there. Make sure you have an accurate ballistic app. Then start entering some matches. The MMPRL shooters are a fun, helpful bunch and will be happy to help you get started with gear, advice, etc. They also have a very active Facebook page for league news and advice.

I learned to shoot Highpower Rifle 30 years ago on the range in your photo.

Cheers,

...and you’d be surprised how well my budget ammo performed. I’ll get some additional dope with 140g ELD match rounds as well.

@DaveM Where are the majority of the matches held? And what’s the farthest distance I would need to account for? Will a capable 308 do ok? Thanks!

The PRS matches are held in Littleton and Conway, NH; Granby, MA; Jericho, VT; and Catskill, NY. All of these ranges have targets to 1000yds and some beyond. The schedule is coordinated by the league and no one range holds the most matches. The ranges in Littleton and Granby are regular clubs that you can join. The range in Catskill is also a club you can join or just rent range time.

As long as you can zero your rifle at 100yds and get good chronograph numbers, all you need is a good ballistic app. Any rifle and ammo combination capable of 1 MOA accuracy should do fine. There are a few guys that shoot .308.
