My new GAP 6.5x47 Lapua build.
This is my first rifle build, I started collecting the parts in feb of 2013 and received the finished product in early nov 3 days before ND whitetail opener. I did not build this rifle as a "hunting" rifle , but i thought what the heck and decided to total the 17lb beast around for the season. With only 3 days before season and no load worked up I rushed to throw a load that i could achieve acceptable accuracy with. I decided on the 140 berger hunting VLDs with 37.5gr of RL 17 powder moving at an average of 2615fps. Two days before the end of season I had a a great opportunity on a fairly respectable whitetail buck. I ranged him at 498 yards and made a good hit on him and down he went. The next morning my dad and I hunted the same area. He wanted to take my rifle for a test drive filling his doe tag. Instead a coyote showed himself and ranged at 225 yards a chip shot for most shooters. I will continue to keep this load on hand for hunting purposes, but i do plan on trying the Lapua 123gr scenars with RL 15 (I cant seem to find any 15 right now) The cold weather up here in ND and being away at college has prevented me from really spending some good quality time with this rifle. Last sunday it finally got warm enough (35 degrees) to be outside and take a few shots. I loaded up 25 fresh rounds and headed out to my buddy's pasture , because all other places I shoot are blocked with snow. A slight 5mph cross wind I was able to hit 5 one gallon jugs at 452 yards with all first round hits. I have about 50 rounds down the tube so far and I absolutely LOVE this rifle.
