Got a new Tikka T3 Lite that will be showing up today. Went looking on the scope shelf and all I had sitting there is a Viper PST FFP and that thing is a chunk. Was looking at Leupold, Zeis, Nikon, and Sightron for a variable scope. With the rifle weighing in at a bit under 6.25 anyone have a recomendation for glass that will keep the weight under 8 lbs?

Also do not limit yourself to the brands I have listed.

Thanks

My recommendation since you bought a light weight T3 rig is Leupold VX 2-7 at 10 ounces or the FX4 at 8 ounces. I am one that does not go hyper magnification on hunting rigs and used 3x fixed for over 40 years out to 425 never once needing or wanting more. Light is right and lighter is righter but again, everyone has an opinion and this is mine that I believe in lightest kit and rifle avail.

I have a leupold VX-3 3.5-10x40 mildot reticle and target turrets sitting on a shelf in my safe right now. Its going up for sale on here once I get 100 posts its a great scope I just picked up something with a bit higher magnification. It was used for 2 years but is in great shape. Let me know if you are interested and shoot me an offer. I'm not worried about it i am in no hurry. Whether you want mine or not that would be my suggestion a leupold vx-3 3.5-10 with your choice of options.

I cant find one online with target turrets so i cant tell you what it weighs for sure but without target turrets they weigh 12.6 onces so not much more than that. The rifle it came off of weighed less than 7 lbs. Nikon monarchs are nice too you might want to add that to your list.

I had a Zeiss 3-9x50 Conquest with a Z600 in it on my old 7 SAUM, it was a good fit and well under your 800 budget. The Z600 would not be a good match for that caliber but a Z1000 would likely work well for you. I think that they make a 3-12 as well. The glass was the best stuff I've owned until I stepped into the $3k+ tactical market recently.

Tikka T3 Lite SS, 30-06 with Leupold VX-R 2-7x33 added CDS at the custom shop. 7.5 lbs loaded.

I agree. Though I do have scopes with more magnification than 7X at the top end, a Leupold 2-7X scope is what sits on my 204 Ruger and it's quite sufficient for 400 yard shots. On the used and even the new market, one will come in at a lot less than $800. I've also bought Leupold Mark 4 scopes with 8X and 10X on the top end for around or even less than $800 but they're a bit heavier.

I have the Viper 4-16 on it now for some load development. With rings and 3 in the magazine it tips the scales just over 8.25 lbs. I have a Zeiss Conquest 3-9 ordered and as soon as I settle on the load I will be using I'll put a set of Kenton knobs on the top and side. This will save me a tad over 3/4 lbs. if the advertised weights are correct.

I truly appreciate your comments. I read and considered them all before spending my money.
