Another Texan already said howdy so I'll just say hi.

Been hunting as long as I remember but got into long range a few years ago when I got a tikka 300wm.

Have shot a couple short range (300 yard) local-ish comps. Next weekend I'm shooting in a PRS style comp near me (ATXPrecision) then later in July shooting in one in north Texas. Using a friends 308 for both the upcoming long range comps.

Planning to get a Tikka CTR before the end of the year, haven't decided what scope to put on it.

Welcome SRW. I grew up in Fredericksburg and am currently about 15 miles north of Sweetwater. My son and I will be at the match in Burnett next weekend. Maybe we’ll run into each other.

As far as scopes, I did a review on the Nightforce SHV F1 in the rifle scopes section. So far, seems like a great entry level scope.

I look forward to meeting you and your son next weekend. My son is 7 so he won't be with me but he loves shooting my dad's old Marlin 22 bolt action. I plan on getting him a 10/22 this year.

The NF SHV has been on my list since I decided I wanted something other than the 300WM for long range. I want more than 16X magnification but I like the idea of a F1 scope for competitions.

I am in DFW and I want to go to the PRS match July 21st at Jacob's Plain if I can get gear and dope ready by then. I need a bipod, ammo, and some trigger time!

For optics, a lot of people on here suggest the Vortex Razor 4.5-27x56 and I went with that. I have not shot with it yet, but it is impressive just glassing. There is one for a good price right now on here: http://www.snipershide.com/shooting...c-mrad-aadmount-caps-switchview-1800.6891315/

That would be fun! It would also be fun to get together with people for some handloading. I would host, but I live in a camper and am forced to bolt my press to the back bumper, so it's about as bad a place for handloading as it gets.
