Hey,

Been lurking for a bit and just sent a PM out so I figured I should do it proper.
As the title states, i live out in the middle of nowhere. Work for the county FD and moonlight on a rig for a private company. Looking at getting into precision shooting with basically minimal rifle skill. Hunted with my dad growing up but have not hunted in a loooong time (vegetarian wife). Have had semis in the past, FAL and custom AK most recently, and currently the only rifle in the house is a 10/22.
Current dilemma is should I just get a factory rifle and ease back into bolt action shooting or start off slightly higher on the offerings. I have no plans on doing many competitions (Hawaii is kinda far to travel from) but hey you never know right? Debating the whole buy off shelf and over time build it up, buy custom used (looking at that RWS 30-06 in the FS sub-forum), or wait for a new custom build. Now, I hate to wait, especially if I got nothing else to shoot haha so the last option might be closed.
Anyway, currently reading and learning what I can and will join the online training soon. Thanks!!!

Aloha,
HIPunch

Your dilemma needs to start at what your budget and intended use is, then go from there. I tend to prefer a short action rifle unless going for ELR shooting so I stay away from the 30-06, but it's still a very good all-around chambering. The FS forum is great for those that hate to wait, and so is the GA Precision "Rifles Ready to Ship" page if you want to go full out premium right off the bat: Rifles Ready to Ship

Howdy and welcome to the Hide!
