I decided a Remington SPS Tactical in .308 would be a good place to start a new rifle project.
The Hogue stocks are OK but I wanted something different, I looked around the web and read here about the XLR Chassis.

I talked to Kyle and ordered what I wanted with a 3 week wait.

I wanted to use a Badger bolt knob, I have read that occasionally the added leverage the handle gives you could rip the factory silver soldered handle off the bolt if you had a sticky extraction.
I remember seeing several fixes for this without buying a new bolt and all the fitting required for a new bolt.
I want to do everything I can without sending parts out.

I ended up doing what looked like the easiest for me to do at home.
I drilled 3 holes in the bolt handle through the bolt, tapped them 6-48 and used Torx scope base screws to give it some added strength.

I then ground down the original bolt handle and threaded it for the Badger knob.
I know I am not the first 'do it your selfer' to do this but all I have is a drill press, files, Dremel tool a tap and die set.

My XLR chassis came this week, unfortunately they forgot to add the folding stock hardware.
Called Kyle at XLR and he next day aired the parts, great customer service!

I also ordered the optional small picatinny rail on the stock so I could mount an Accu-shot mono pod

These chassis are pretty impressive. The optional detachable mag feature that uses standard AICS magazines was ordered also.

Folding stock and and chassis together.

The XLR comes with a grip that has finger grooves, I do not like finger grooves on any of my rifles or pistols, the XLR uses AR style grips, Kyle gave me a credit for the grip he uses so I mounted my favorite AR grip, the Magpul MOE. It needed to be modified to fit, an easy bit of grinding and it went right on.

I attached my WOTAC Generation 5 scope on TPS rings, added the Harris bi-pod and she is done, next installment will be working up a load with Hornady A-Max 168s and Varget powder.

Thank you for this great wealth of information. Seeing what you've created has help me decide to go with XLR chassis for my 6.5 CM build. Thanks again.

I know this thread hasn't been replied too lately but I was looking at XLR's chassis and am pretty set on getting one but I was wondering what the weight was for it. Do you happen to know?

Re: New guy Remmington SPS/XLR Chassis first build

Thread from the dead....

Can someone tell me the best length 6-48 torx screws to start with for the bolt reinforcement mod? Also is one profile head better to use then the another? Brownells sells them as Redfield, Luepold, Weaver etc.

Thanks!
