I'm new with the semi's, and was wonderin which brand that yall prefer? Im looking to build a .308, maybe a DPMS or an Armalite, not sure which (any other suggestions would be great to). After the rifle, any suggested upgrades? I have a Zeiss off a previous bolt action build, just wondering what else would help. Like I said, first long semi-auto I've tried to build, not sure what all is different from the bolts. Thanks!

There is no one, single preferred brand. Everyone likes something different. Each brand has strengths and weaknesses. Each brand has some subtle differences, and some are not so subtle.
For instance DPMS and most other brands will take Magpul mags, but Armalite takes a different mag and Magpul won't work.
Your best option is to read through this forum and see what everyone has to say about their favprite rifle.
I have a DPMS SASS and like it, but some people don't.
One thing you will run into regardless which you choose is that a flattop AR platform won't be able to use the same rings you used on a bolt rifle. The scope needs to be mounted higher. I use a Larue LT-104 QD mount. It is the mount and rings in a single unit. It also moves the scope forward more than just high rings so the eye relief is easier to use.

Read every single thread here. Most questions have been asked and answered several times. When you need help understanding something you have read you will get more help than just asking which one is best.
