Hi, I'm a former SDM instructor at Ft. Lewis's SBASC in the early '90's. SDM is Squad Designated Marksman for those that are unfamiliar. Been shooting since I was 8, got top shooter in my SDM class and went back as an instructor. I'm real familiar with the AR and M4, but I like to accurize and modify assault and battle rifles into SDM rifles. Just a bug I got. Some come out better than others.

So I was over at THR, but I recently got banned because they thought I was a "poser" over the info contained in some posts about unorthodox training and procedure after 9/11 and during the beginning of Iraq at my particular unit; long story short, they required me to "prove" my claims in order to maintain membership. I like to excercise my 2A rights, but I like to exercise the others too, and I also feel that submitting personal info about my service record is going a little too far considering I get nothing in return. Those documents have my SSN on 'em, and I feel they prove little anyway unless you were there --besides, why would I want to be in that company? I'm tired of the nazi moderation over there, and the tempo of conversation has turned quite childish and I think they are running off their more knowledgeable members.

So I came here in hopes there are more like minded individuals that are interested in long range shooting and accurate shooting and the skills that go along with it. Preferably a higher ratio of service members or former service members with shooting experience, sniper or otherwise, whatever. I'd really like to run into some SDM's, any, either the ones before me, the ones I trained, the ones that did the newer courses at Benning, Marines, current ones, anyone. Conversation along the lines of what works and what doesn't, what has been done, etc., that would be cool.

Am I in the right place? Sorry to go on so long, I just don't want to waste my time here if this isn't the place for me. Like I said, I'm a little rough and big boy words don't bother me, a former infantryman, advanced marksmanship instructor, university educated (after the army!) and a shooter. I still like to shoot today, and I have since I was 8, although I'm no longer military like I said, and I've gotten a little university mathematics (my major) since then that helps aid in my veiw of long range shooting, trajectories, energy, etc.

I won't be supplying personal information that backs up my claims, you either believe them or you don't, those are my rules. I can disambiguate or further explain things, but I won't be submitting personal papers to a website forum to vet my service record.

Thank you, and I await your responses. By the way, if this DOES happen to be the wrong place, can you refer me to one that is more up my alley? Thanks.

Re: New here, wanna know if this is the right place.

Welcome. Put SOMETHING in your profile (i.e., US Army 1999-2005, 11B, 2ID, SDM, BCD, smart-ass, anything). Obviously you can go off the PERSEC deep end as well.

Read some of the topics. Lots here.

Re: New here, wanna know if this is the right place.

Yeah, I plan on going through a lot here. Seems there is a lot more here that I can both learn and contribute to, this site seems more geared towards me than the other one. I just hope the moderation is moderation and not censorship.

I'm also sort of assuming that by the name of the site and tempo of discussion that there may be more like minded individuals with similar service experiences to my own.

So here goes...

Thanks for the welcome by the way.

Well Stryker, welcome to the Hide. However, due to your claims of being a SDM and then training SDMs, you will need to publicly post your Military ID, any/all relevant patches, your birth certificate, your dog's AKC registry, and the last 4 years of your Federal Income Tax Returns.

Seriously though, welcome.
