New HRD-Gear RRS rails at Mile High

I have been using full length ARCA Rails cobbled onto the forearms sense RRS came out with the conversions for Atlas and Harris bipods.

Not only does a device like this allow you to quickly slide the bipod to shoot off a barrel or other small foot print, it can work like an MPA front barricade stop. Maybe more on this later. But these are a game changer

Anyway, HRD-Gear is making a few very cool offerings. Here is one (top in the image) for a SA AX.. keymod at Mile High.

The gun at the bottom shows a 6” standard ARCA rail (not RRS dovetail) on the AT chasis. It extends to the same distance the spigot mount would. This was done BEFORE a full length HRD-Gear AT option was available. If I was going to do it today, I would forgo the RRS handgaurd /dove tail and go the 11" HRD-Gear.. The top one is the new HRD-gear sold at Mile High. The also have new universal 9”-11” slotted versions..

I ordered an 11” HRD Rail for my LA AXMC yesterday, should be here tomorrow. I wish there was an Arca barricade attachment like ingenuity Gunworks has, still looking forward to having a completely flat surface end to end. I also ordered the Atlas adapter you’re using, I put a SC-LR and a fortune cookie RRS bag with the SC-LR adapter on backorder. Vyce should be here tomorrow as well, for my none Arca equipt rigs. These new products are addictive....

Makes you wonder why the heck we have be fumbling for so many years with all the lower pic rails!

On the Mile High web-sight they show a 9" HRD rail for $175 for the AIAT. Can I assume if you get the 9" version you don't need the RRS rail?

Yes, in hind sight, that is what I should have done on the AT in the lower picture in my OP.

FWIW I used standard short Arca style camera plates on most my rifles long before RRS made the SOAR product line. The image below is an example:

When they came out with their chasis specific plate/hand plates. I added those.

I was not until they came out with a way to mount the bipod to the RRS 1.5" and ARCA dovetails, that I starred cobbling to together longer forend options as in the image below. The man issue I found is that most cheap camera plates do not lock up thin the RRS 1.5 dovetail.. So it was a complete pain and trial and error process. That is actually a camera plate hogged out to fill the profile of the hand guard.

Thats why the AT in the bottom image in the OP shows both the RRS plate/hand guard and a longer camera plate.

Once I experience the speed and versatility of the RRS bipods and the dual use as barricade and recoil stops I was hooked.

If you have M-lock Henderson Precession makes very nice full length rails that are setto RRS 1.5 dovetail standard.

Sorry, I was not very clear.

The 6" is my cobbled version before I found the HRD-Gear's AX offerings. It is also because I already had the RRS hand guard/ Dovetail adapter. I used a 6" slotted rail and drummeled out (widened the slot) a section for the AT's spigot release and used heavy T-nuts that I had for another project. The setup falls short of the entire one piece AT solution now offered by HRD-Gear but was a $14 option https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CHDR82G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If I was to start from scratch on a AT I would get the HRD-Gear for the AT choosing either the 11" and ditch the spigot mount that almost always has play or go with the 9" for a flush look.

Last year I picked up that machined spigot mount replacement that I think it was Samb300 was sells for my AIAT. It replaces the whole spigot mount with picatinny rail. Very solid. I will have to look to see if the HRD Gear rail will clear the mount. I might have to go with a shorter one.

Is that a CAL bipod above photo? Are you using RRS arca adaptor

I will most likely order two of them since they gave me an unsolicited gear boner, but they would be perfect if angled so you could compress them onto a barrier. I might fashion my own out of one if I can get some time at my old mans machine shop in Missouri.

I went with a 6” and got just about the same extended footprint as with the original spigot.

The 9 inch might be nice, but you would have to do a bit of work around if you’re going to keep the RRS handguard. Also my concern would be that you would have about 5 inches of cantilever and that might work the key mod a little hard.

Yes, RRS adapters on the CAL, PSRs and Harris. The reason one is backwards is I was on a stage we’re i needed to adjust left handed.

Btw I am using the bipods as barricade stops on the target side. Running the RRS yo on one side and the bipod on the other to create a sandwich

That makes complete sense, since the CAL has the integrated barricade stop built into it. Just flip it around, so the BS is facing the shooter, and slide it back until it clamps between the RRS AI adapter and the bipod BS. Right?

Yes, and when sitting on a bag— it is amazing - 1/2 the time I just run the bipod legs down creating a large easy, fast surface area.

Again all this stuff is rather new.. but really adds a bit of possibilities
