Hi, I've been reading tons of distaste and disgust for Leupold. Alot of shooters out there aren't happy with MOA/MIL that Leupold offers and think that Leupold just isn't up to par with other tactical scope makers. Hopefully this will stir some interest.
I went to the PX prior to mission the other day and found a new Gun magazine. I was excited since now I pretty much glance and its the same regurgitated magazine tahts been there (sorry but I really don't care to see Michael or Obamma on one third of every magazine there). I got the February edition of "Guns & Weapons for LE". It has a decent article about the Remington MSR and in the article it has a very small portion describing a new Leupold scope. As per the article...........
"The MSR sports Leupold's newest offering, a 34mm variable power scope. Leupold's offering incorporates all of the lastest technological and operational advances uncovered in the last ten years. The new scope is offered in 6.5-20 power with a Horus H-27 reticle on the first focal plan and a 50mm objective lens. The first focal plane enables the shooter to mil targets at closer distances. The scope also has 1/10th mil adjustments and locking turrets. There are 40 mils of travel in the scope as well as a zero stop feature with two revolutions. A revolution indicator pops up after the first revolution so the shooter always knows the dope on the rifle."
Well thats all that was described. Its very vague and I couldn't find anything about this new scope on Leupold's website so I'm assuming that its to be released during the SHOT Show. That is "if" this is actually a Leupold scope. Most of you are probably the same way that I am, read an article and the pictures do not correlate to what's being said, and therefore are skeptical. Yes I am a Leupold fan and don't doubt that they have a new scope, I just don't believe all of what I read anymore.
So hopefully this can bring a little light to the darkness. The article starts on page 18 with the scope details starting on 23.
Will this fill the niche that everyone complains that Leupold is lacking in? I don't know, I just don't know. I'm still very new at long range shooting and am no where near being an operator so for me an FFP scope with MIL/MIL reticle and adjustments as well as zero stops is not something I need. I'll be content blasting holes on paper and using that knowledge to drop an animal more confidently.
But hopefully this sparks some interest. Until then we'll have to wait and see what Leupold comes out with and how well its received by the shooting community.
