Im going to be putting together a new rifle for my Finace. My goal is to have a rifle close to 6-7 lbs over all. I bought an older Remington 700 .243. Im looking for the lightest weight stock available but I dont want to spend an arm and a leg on this build. The rifle currently is wearing the factory wood which in fairly decent condition.. I thought about just refinishing that stock by stripping the gloss finish and using some tung oil on it for the CDL look but im leaning towards the "ultralite" type of build for her. She is a very good shot but has a rough time holding anything up for over 3 seconds lol.

those wood stocks are usually pretty damn light. every "ultra light" stock ive seen isnt what ide consider cheap. seems like if shaving off those extra ounces is that important youre going to have to spend the money. otherwise just refinish the stock like you were saying and im sure it will be fine. i would pillar bed it though. maybe a good sling would help with the standing shots

I took in a 700adl with a wood stock on a trade deal, and it is very light. I'm curious now, will have to stick it on the scales and see what it weighs. I think careful scope selection would net more weight savings than a stock

Honestly on the cheap, just find the cheap plastic ADL or SPS stock for it. Sure a Manners, McMillan, or B&C would be great, but the benefit of a custom stock wont mean squat if the muzzle is waving all over the place as she strains to hold it up. You can have the cheapo stock dipped in some cool patterns or krylon it. Plus most of those factory stocks come with a SuperCell recoil pad.

You can pick them up for near nothing and if you decide its not for you, sell it and get your money back, or just keep it just in case you sell the rifle later.

Yes, the factory stocks are crappy, and flex, but offhand you will be surprised what one can do with them.

Hell, put a wanted ad in the WTB thread, someone may just give you one.
