I'm rebarreling a rifle, and have come down to two options based on what my gunsmith can offer (This is in Norway):

Hart vs Border

Pro and cons?

Both will be stainless steel. .338 30" 1:10

Border can be delivered in 5R rifling. Is this worthwhile?

Hart barrels are exceptional quality, so I doubt you could go wrong with it. I'm not overly familiar with the Border barrels, so I can't help there.

As far as the 5R rifling, some like it, and some don't. I've been shooting a Rock Creek 5R barrel for a while, and I am favorably impressed. It is excellent quality, shoots better than I can, doesn't foul much, and it's easy to clean.

Re: New Long-range barrel: Which to choose?

Having seen this same (excellent) question here for roughly a decade, I feel safe in saying both have quite positive reputations. My experience with aftermarket premium barrels has been solely with Lothar-Walther, and I can feel equally confident in recommending them as well. Friends who have used Pac-Nor are quite happy with theirs.

I chose L-W because of their reputation in BR and some correspondence with them. They make more barrels than anyone else, worldwide; and their gauging and recordkeeping are first rate. I believe this allows them to know more about their product, and how each facet and feature relates to the production process. I believe this allows their quality control and their ability to repeat a specific success to be superior. Replacement barrels are a rare luxury for my resources, so I feel these capacities are paramount.
