So I've developed a new, long-range sabot round based on the .50BMG necked down to 6.5x284.

**I've been getting questions, don't confuse this with 6.5-50BMG. This is chambered to shoot an actual 6.5x284 Cartridge.**

Here it is next to a .50BMG

As you can see, when the primer ignites the .50BMG, the 6.5x284 careens down the barrel. The Base measurement of the standard .284 is .501" so it engages the rifling just enough to impart spin on the entire cartridge. When the primer pocket of the 6.5x284 ignites, the already spinning 6.5 projectile is accelerated to just shy of 5,500 FPS.

More testing is required but so far, this cartridge has Long-Range accuracy written all over it.

More to come!

Here's me shooting the 6.5x284x50BMG

And here's the target at 500 yards:

Measured just about 1.2" at that distance.

Re: NEW Long-Range Sabot.

We're expecting 3,000 rounds as the barrel only receives speeds of about 3,000-3500 FPS on the brass 6.5x284 case. The pressure built behind the 6.5 from the extra powder in the .284 case Causes minimal barrel wear.

this one will be a one barrel per lifetime gun!

Re: NEW Long-Range Sabot.

Well since the one you shot had a Nightforce on it with a bubble level, and the one thats blown up had a Leupold I think your loads are just fine!

BTW what the hell happened to that Barrett?

Re: NEW Long-Range Sabot.

I was told they opened the bolt too soon after they fired onto a bad primer... had a delayed kaboom that was Out of Battery since they opened the bolt.

Just saying that if you load a 6.5x284 into a .50bmg you're asking for trouble.

When you break $10,000 into smaller bills, it's still worth $10,000... when you break a $10,000 Barret into smaller pieces, it's worth $45.00 Scrap.
