Hey guys -
I recently bought a LWRC REPR and was so impressed I ran out and bought a M6A3 piston gun, cause I thought it would be along the same lines in quality and accuracy. The REPR fit and finish is indeed impressive, and some preliminary testing for accuracy show that it is acceptable - I will post more on that later when I am able to test thoroughly.

About the M6A3:

First of all, I purchased this from an Gunbroker dealer from out of state. It was new in box with all the trimmings, except a warranty card was in not found the box. (red flag one)

Fit and finish - the upper and lower receiver fit together are very loose, I can lean the gun over to a side and fit a business card in between the upper and lower gap. Also, the upper and lower do not meet exactly, there is about a 2 business card ledge where the upper receiver overlaps the lower. (The REPR finish is flawless and mates so smoothly that you cannot catch a fingernail).

Shooting - for me, a mediocre fit and finish can be forgiven if it shoots well. With reloaded 55 grain ammo - the cheap stuff, I shot about 5-6 MOA at 100 from a benchrest with a 31F ACOG scope.

Now the qualifications - I only shot it once, I hadnt eaten that morning, and was in a bit of a hurry. There was only a mild wind, but overall the conditions were good. After the LWRC, I then shot 2-3 moa with my Rock River with the same ammo and a EOTech.

The LWRC has a 1:7 twist, the RRA has 1:9.
The trigger pull on the LWRC is very heavy, its smooth, but heavy - I guess about 7 lbs.

Q: Do you think the light ammo of 55 grains would be that less accurate at 100yds with a 1:7 twist that a 70 grain bullet? Could a heaver ammo be that much more accurate?

I bought some match grade 70 grain ammo to test with this weekend and will post more results.

Q: Please suggest a few other ammo choices, not exotic stuff, that I should test with to conclude a accuracy evaluation.
I dont want to have to feed this gun special exotic ammo to shoot it accurately - especially when I my RRA shoots reloads pretty well. But some good quality easily obtainable reliable stuff: remington, federal, black hills...

Is is possible that the store I bought it from swapped uppers and lowers for another customer ? These guns are kind of moving fast - so having more than one on the shelf seems a improbability.

I plan on calling LWRC about the fit and finish, and ammo suggestions, but I wanted some more perspective first.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

go back to LWRC immediately...they are a great company and they can tell you if it fraud are not by the serial number first. I know my LWRC M6A2 is well put together and there is no play between upper and lower. Something is wrong.

most definitely something is wrong, your first mistake was not buying your M6A3 directly from LWRCI, do you have return privileges from whom you bought it from ?

your "red flag", about this: <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">except a warranty card was in not found the box</div></div> the warranty card is on the last page of an instruction booklet that is very helpful and informative.., like Nightforce, they stand behind their product warranty card or not. i think the dealer screwed you over !

Re: New LWRC A3 - testing for accuracy, fit and fi

Thanks -

I just spoke with LWRC and he said that the 1:7 twist likes the heavier ammo, like Black Hills 77 grain, additionally the XM193 stuff does pretty well also.
He offered that they can special order a 1:9 barrel and would work with me on the price.

Regarding fit and finish - he said that they can take in the whole rifle and take a look upper and lower fit. He explained that there could be a problem because so many people buy upper and lowers separately they could be deluged with folks wanting their upper and lowers custom mated. So he was more guarded on this one.

I plan on buying some heavier ammo to test it with.

Re: New LWRC A3 - testing for accuracy, fit and fi

Hmmm, my M6A3 is almost flawless in fit and finish. She also likes just about any ammo I can put through her. The good news is that LWRC has great CS and will no doubt take care of you. Hop on to the LWRC forum at their website and you may be able to get a bit more info.

Re: New LWRC A3 - testing for accuracy, fit and fi

I had my M6A1 6.8 spc (different caliber, I know) out the other day to do some accuracy testing. I shot under 2 moa all day in 20 mph winds with hand loads. On a calm day I am hoping be able to shoot around 1 moa. My suggestion would be a trigger change. My factory trigger was around 8.5# I put in a 2-stage RRA trigger, cost $110 (I think). Makes a huge difference, for me anyway.

Re: New LWRC A3 - testing for accuracy, fit and fi

My two M6A3s fit fine with regards to the upper/lower - and shoots fine with 55grn FMJ. As previously stated, something doesn't seem right.

Re: New LWRC A3 - testing for accuracy, fit and fi

Mine too has an awesome fit. Even after running a mag dump there were no problems. I cannot comment on long range accuracy yet as it was set up with a red dot. I have bow made it an SPR with a NF scope and I will post pics of my target after I take it out.

Re: New LWRC A3 - testing for accuracy, fit and finish

My M6A2 has no play and the fit and finish are superb. It was my first rifle and I liked it so much it inspired me to get a REPR.

My M6A2 shoots 55 grain just fine. As I said, it was my first ever rifle. After I got comfortable shooting a rifle I was able to get a 1"-1.5" 5 shot group at 100 yards with a 1.5-5 scope. I could not do it all the time, cause I am new and still learning, but the rifle seems capable.

Thats odd. My M6A3 shoots awesome out to 500 yards. I shoot it with an AAC SPR/M4 can on mine and I can hit a steel plate at 500 with an ACOG 4x power. I think thats pretty damn impressive for a 16" 5.56 gas gun.

Re: New LWRC A3 - testing for accuracy, fit and fi

I am suspect about the LWRCs quality control. Let me qualify this statement by saying that i own two M6A2s. Both are 10.5" SBRs. The trigger that comes with them is about as bad as i have seen on a milspec trigger. Both of mine shoot well. My best friend has an M6A2 16" and that one cant shoot for shit. At first i though it was my buddy's fault. I tried it and same results. It was shooting 5-6" groups at 100yards, while my shorty LWRC was shooting 2" groups same day. The manger of my gun store also got the LWRC 6.8 shorty and the performance was terrible. We are talking about 5" groups as well at a 100yards.

Re: New LWRC A3 - testing for accuracy, fit and fi

I just took the M6A3 out for a more rigorous test this afternoon and am totally disappointed. I have the following results, all shot at 100 yard with 2.5x10 Nightforce scope.
The same ammo was shot against a stock Rock River Arms 16" with 4X ACOG, unfair advantage to the LWRC .

55 Grain factory reloads - cheap stuff
M6A3 - 5-6 MOA
RRA - 3 RRA

77 Grain BTHP Factory reloads - semi cheap stuff
M6A3 - 5 MOA
RRA - 2 MOA

62 Grain Turkish made
M6A3 - 4 MOA
RRA 3 MOA

69 Grain Black Hills - blue box
M6A3 3 MOA
RRA 2-3 MOA

77 Grain Black Hills Red box BTHP
M6A3: 2-3 MOA
RRA: 2-3 MOA

My $900.00 off the shelf RRA with 1:9 chrome barrel outshot the 2100.00 LWRC with 1:7 'match grade' barrel, not to mention the poor fit and finish.

Boy do I feel good about spend more than 2 grand on that one.

I plan on contacting LWRC and voicing my disappointment and asking them to take it back in for QA check.
