So after owning .22 LR Rifles my entire life (I've always been a hand gun guy, and I own enough of those now!) I decided it was time to own something substantial. After a lot of research I decided on the M1A Scout Squad. This is such a versatile rifle! I can deer hunt with it, and wipe out the zombies! Or just control the ground squirrel and coyote populations.
I have some questions, hopefully those of you with this rifle can answer from experience.
So, I have just the stock Scout Squad right now with the 10 rnd and 20 rnd mags. What next? I want a good scope (mounted further back, not on the front scope mount that came on the rifle). I want a scope I can reach pretty far out with. My budget is around $400 for the scope. Maybe a little more. I also want a scope mount that won't come loose. Ever. I was told at the gun shop that ARMS makes a good 3 point mount. I also want it to screw right on, no modifications. And I want a decent bipod. I have always liked Harris bipods. Any other recommendations? My next question is about ammo. Am I ok to shoot commercial .308 170 grain or less ammo in this rifle? or should I stick with 7.62x51 nato rounds? will I risk a "slam fire" with the commercial ammo? The gun shop guys told me I'd be fine. Thanks for any information!
I can't wait to hit the range!
