First off, I am an experienced shooter, handloader and hunter. I am new to the long range/tactical shooting thing, though I have engaged targets out to 800 yards with my beloved M240B back in the day in the Army.

I am taking a gunsmithing course in the Spring semester. The first build is required to be a Mauser conversion, I guess so you get practice on the machines while working on a cheap action. I want to buld a long range rifle using a VZ-24 Czech Mauser action.

I have been talking to serious shooters around here and I have decisded on the 7mm WSM as the chambering throated for heavy Berger VLD bullets. I have had my eyes opened to the LR capabilities of the 7mm WSM, i.e. good initial velocity and very high B.C.

Questions:
1. Does anyone make a detatchable box mag that will fit the WSM family of cartridges? I may be able to fabricate a modification to the bottom metal to take an existing magazine.
2. Who makes quality, steel 1913 rails with 20 or so MOA built in that I can adapt to the Mauser action?
3. I'll use a laminate stock due to price point, but who makes an adjustable comb kit that is/works similarly to the MagPul PRS adjustable comb system?

Any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

1) Can't help here

2) EGW makes one in AL with 20 MOA in it for about 35 bucks, I've used it on a mauser and it works very well. You can contact them about making you one in steel, I don't know if they offer that or not. I know they will do custom stuff sometimes.

3) Call Terry Cross at KWM to see if you can use his adjustable comb setup in a laminated stock. I have it on a Manners stock and it appears that you could do it, he's the guy to confirm or deny it though.

Re: New Member Custom Build Advice, Specific Questions

A while back, someone floated a thread for a Mauser-based DBM set-up that Jeff at CDI said he would make - if there were a minimum commitment of X assemblies. I do not think the minimum number has yet been met.

In addition to EGW, I think IOR makes a Mauser Pic rail - also check with NEAR Mfg.

Talk to Joel Russo about the stock and hardware: http://russoriflestocks.com/
