Hi,
Usual story, been viewing the Hide for quite a while, just now registered. I'm pretty young, only 20, and I'm a student (studying to get my RN); I love shooting of all kinds, but recently a 1000 yard range opened near me, and it's just calling my name ... now I just have to not eat for a couple months to save up for a nice bolt-gun and optic, lol.

Welcome to the Hide. Just make sure you don't ask the question "Can I hunt with SMK's"

Regarding the 1000 yard range, what do they charge for you to shoot? I'm curious if most range's have some sort of membership fee.

I'm thankful for the farmland we own.

Welcome to the site! I know the feeling you have about being able to buy a nice rifle. No matter what stage in life your in, it is an expensive hobby.

Welcome

Spending a few days with the search function and reading a LOT of threads you'll learn a lot on here. You'll find you don't need to spend the big bucks to shoot to 1000 yards but getting decent equipment the first time is a necessity. Some folks give up fast when they can't hit everything first few trips out so you'll find there is a learning curve to this. Visiting that new range a couple of times watching/listening and see who is hitting long steel and becoming acquainted with them will shorten your curve quite a bit. It won't take you long to sort out the wannabes from the real deals when hitting long range steel. Ya wanna pay attention to the ones that can hit it regularly.

When you start hearing that distant "ding" after you see the hit it's very addicting.

Have fun, enjoy your new hobby

Welcome to the Hide. Stay out of the Sniper's Hide Exchange unless you want to be broke all the time. There is so much to learn within these forums that if you're not careful, you can spend too much time reading instead of working on college studies. Trust me, as I know first hand (also working toward my RN). LoL
