Today was the first time I’d shot a bolt gun for probably 20 yrs. I’m an experienced shooter in several other realms but not this one.
I shot my brand new ARC Nucleus 2.0 (6mm Creed) with some bits (Tract Toric 4-30 x 56, Accutac bipod, weights, MDT level, hellfire brake) slapped on and a few adjustments made (trigger adj. 1lb, 16lb striker spring, sanded grips). It was a truly exceptional experience, thanks in large part to my buddy who guided my hand, both in my gear purchases as well as on the range.
We may have only sent 15 rounds during the first 2hrs of being at the range, certainly a pace I could get behind. We cold bore sighted, broke in the barrel, and got on paper (100yds). The resulting group isn’t great but I’m happy to say the problem is all me. This is actually a 5rd group so the center hole had 3 rounds go through it (super excited!).
Jumped over to the 300yd range and was able to hit 8” steel, first shot, with my friends elevation guidance. I had no idea. Lol. We followed by chronographing the three loads I brought along (ELD-M, Black, Sierra Match) and then he challenged me to shoot PRS style off a bag and barricade. Kinda loved that a lot.
It’s safe to say I’m hooked. Later this week I get to try my hand out to 1,000yds. I’m sure that won’t come easily, but the challenge is exciting and cathartic. I have much to learn.
Thanks for letting me share!
