New member from Arkansas. I've been lurking on the forum for a while now. This site came highly recommended on a couple of other forums I frequent. Lots of great information here. I'm currently looking for a starter rifle and I plan to shoot in some local matches after I get all the gear I need. Hopefully, this will be my first contribution to the forum and isn't old news. In my research for a rifle, I found that Remington is offering a $40 rebate on the 700 SPS Varmint line until 5/30/10. Thinking about picking one up in .308 and building up from there. Here is a link to the form. Remington 700 SPS Varmint Rebate

Welcome! If you wanted to really be entertained, you could start a thread on what we think the couple other forums are

You'd be amused at what some of these guys would come up with. What are some of your observations about the Hide from your time lurking?

Re: New member

Agreed on the stock. Once I shoot for a while and can evaluate what I need/want as far as features and fit, I'll pick one up. I know I eventually want it free-floated and bedded, but that is about all I know for sure. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: DaveV</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Welcome! I've seen some of those threads going around. One of the forums is M4carbine.net <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: DaveV</div><div class="ubbcode-body">What are some of your observations about the Hide from your time lurking? </div></div> Well, there is more information than I can store in my pea brain.

I have taken quite a few notes along the way. Lots of genuinely good people that quite simply just love to shoot, don't mind helping a guy like me out, and have really thick skin

. I believe I may pay up for the training section. Looks like a hell of a deal for amount of the information available there. I think I'll stick around for awhile.

And don't forget, the search function is a very sacred thing here. If we ever have a virgin stroll through, I'm sure she/he/it will be sacrificed to it.

You will do great here

Re: New member

Look around here for stuff to upgrade your rifle. You can find a good stock from someone else upgrading. I started with a Rem 700 VLS in 308 and had a Rem 700 VSS in 223. I took the stock off the 223 and put it on the 308. It is a factory stock made for Rem by HS. Comes with aluminum bed and pillars. Put the laminated wood on the 223 and sold it. Took the money and a little more and put a Night Force nxs 5x22x56 on it. Bolt extension, Tubb brake, trigger job at gun smith. It shoots 1/2 inch moa all day with hand loads. Buy a good rifle and a better scope, do load development, reload and go shoot it!
