Rifle Scopes New Micro Aimpoints Are Much Dimmer Now?

I was planning on picking up a new Micro Aimpoint T2 when I could find one at a good price just to leave on 24/7 for my HD AR. However, on euro optic I noticed a recent review where someone mentioned their ten year old micro was much brighter, so they returned it. Then I read on m4carbine.net someone complaining of the exact same thing. The poster even went on to state he spoke to aimpoint and they confirmed this was the case.

Does anyone else have this experience or know anything about it? Exactly how bad is it if anyone has seen it?

I run my Aimpoint Pro on level 1 (most accuracy) or level 2 (speed) and start to get a star, instead of a dot, above that and uncomfortable brightness.

Edit add - There seems to be two or thee "clicks" below the level where the RD actually becomes visible so my level 1 is actually 3-4 detent stops from off.

Got to think that new ones are at least as bright as they old ones at its lowest levels.

Agreed it would be a pain in the ass if you had to keep clicking through to get where you need to be if useable levels are now at the top of the scale rather than the bottom.

Is this just a micro problem?

Super impressed with the PRO - an issue item that gave me my only experience to date with RDS. Mine is two years old.

Non-issue. 200 issued H2's were all very bright. Leave on 8 and adjust if needed.

Keep in mind that not all Aimpoints have night vision capability. The T2 is night vision ready so the first few settings will be very dim and you will need to use a higher setting than a non- NV ready red dot.

By “level 1” 3-4 clicks from off, I’m guessing you are on level 5-6? I just got a new PRO and it basically has 3 usable levels. Out of 9 settings- #7 can be used in low light, 8 for most daylight, or #9 if it’s super bright out. It’s definitely dimmer across the board than the PRO I had years ago. It’s much dimmer than my H1 and T1 micro. I realize that some need night vision settings, but why would you use 5 out of 9 settings for NV? I do think it’s an issue because you don’t have near as much useful adjustment as the old Aimpoints.

Yes, unless you are Spec Ops and/or need to use NV I can't see the reason to buy the T2 over the H2.

In terms of the dot intensity you're actually buying yourself into getting a lot less options that your naked eye can see.

Tacticool is what tacticool is, but in this case you're getting less for your money.

I bought a new micro that I thought I wanted for my primary AR. I ended up keeping my old beat up Comp ML2 on it and put the micro on my backup rifle. She is beat up, but I just prefer it over the micros. I should have got a new PRO instead or looked for a used ML2/ML3.

I much prefer the fullsize aim points myself. I sold my T2 years ago.

I don't really notice a size difference, however, I shoot red dots both eyes open and threat/target focus...

So for those who have purchased an h2 or t2 lately, how serious is it? Did you think about sending it back? I guess it it is just one or two spots dimmer that shouldn't be a huge deal for a purely HD rifle. Still, not sure why aimpoint did this.

This is a complete non-issue.

Except that you have to run at a higher setting- thus decreasing battery life. That to me IS an issue.

Exactly. How much is battery life affected? I don't understand why aimpoint messed with such a good thing.
