Well I been wanting one for some time and decided to take the plunge and get a Marlin 80 DL (24" Barrel) with Lyman R55M Peep Sights.

Sorry about the quality of the picture...

I'll be adding a sling to this rifle and that's it. Thoughts are that this rifle could be as old as 70 years as it carries the plastic trigger guard and the Receiver is not grooved for scope. My understanding is that in 1941 Marlin went to the Plastic trigger guard and it was also the first year they started grooving the Receivers. In any event, it's Vintage. There is no serial number to nail down a manufacturing date.

It handles well, and the Vintage Lyman Peep Sight (R55M) is nice. this could very well become my favorite rifle real easy.

Can hardly wait for some decent weather to get this 80 DL sighted in.

Just gotta love those old rifles. Stuff like that is hard to find.
Thinking along the same lines, I told you guys about buying a Savage MKII FVT several months ago.
The local store had 2 of them they both sat there for over 2 years and often fondled by me before I brought one home.
The other still sitting on the shelf was bothering me. The store owner could not move it, likley would be a calm day at the range before he stocked any thing like that again.
What a beauty, long heavy barrel, Willams peep rear sight, front globe sight with interchangable inserts.
What a treasure that rifle will be 50 years from now.
I really could not afford it.
The store is having a sale to get some new stuff since the old stuff is not moving. Now just 275 bucks.
I brought it home anyway. just casually leaned the closed box against the wall with some laminate flooring I need to install when I get laid off this winter.
Almost looks like a box of flooring sitting there.
Christmas is comming and I have an eight year old grandson!
He may not get it this year, because it will have a stock he can use, and the original before I show it to him.

Something about the oldies that really gets my attention, that's for sure.

Clodhopper, I got that very same MKII FVT w/ accutrigger, and the Williams peep sight on it is a favorite of mine. Matter of fact I sold a MKI FVT last week to one of our local club members. He wanted the single shot so I let him try my MKII FVT one afternoon, and he was sold on the rifle so much that he had me order in that MKI FVT for him.

Lately I have really been leaning more to the peep sights, and open iron. I seldom take out a scoped rifle anymore. I just don't get the satisfaction from the glass that I get from the iron. This Marlin 80 DL is just icing on the cake. It'll get a lot of work come good weather, and the rifle is in excellent shape for its age. Wish I could say the same for me.
