Looks like pulsar announced their new thermals, all with 60mm objectives and 2.5x base mag. Display is upgrade to a round 2560x2560 resolution as well. I feel like the XL60 is somewhat interesting, but lagging in what other manufacturers are offering. Maybe they are waiting until SHOT show to announce a 1280 in a scope.

There are 3 new 60mm options, and they range from 2.5x base to 4x base.

Pulsar Thermion 2 LRF XG60: 4-32x (640, 12µm)
Pulsar Thermion 2 LRF XP60: 3-24x (640, 17µm)
Pulsar Thermion 2 LRF XL60: 2.5-20x (1024, 12µm)

Pulsar does have a 1280 in the Merger lineup. Their 1280 offering(s) start with XT. More resolution doesn't mean it fits the sweet spot for every application. This means a larger FOV and less magnification if not increasing focal length, micron size, etc. These new scopes include 4x the memory of the XG and XP series LRF units, come with 2 APS 3 battery packs, 2560x2560 resolution display, and also come with an ADM Recon scope mount. The best part is the MAP price didn't change from the most recent sale prices on the 50 series.

There is a lot to like about the 60 series. I can't wait to try the XG60 on coyotes as soon as mine arrives.

Curious why you went XG instead of XL? Depth of focus impacted with larger sensors?

Larger FOV may let the XL pull double duty on an AR if needed

I hunt wide open plains for coyotes. If I was hunting more a mixed bag of terrain plus potentially hogs, the XL would be my first choice. The other factor is budget. The price of the XL is considerably higher as well. I killed 552 coyotes last hunting season with a 640-resolution thermal. Is 1024 a better image, yes, but the animals don't know which scope I am using when my bullet hits them. Upping the XL60 from 1.75 to 2.5 does make it more compelling for coyotes, but I do like a little more magnification.

How many pixels is necessary to get the job done? Not all 384, 640, 1024, or 1280 sensors and scopes are created equal. A saying a hunting friend of mine used to say is 384 is all you really need, but 640 is all you will want if you look through it. The same can now probably be said for 1024 or 1280. However, with all that said make sure you are using a thermal that will allow Positive ID (PID). If you can't PID your target, DO NOT SHOOT!

Gahlee 500+ is my dream, barely get 20 in WI in a year

I have been running the XG50 Lrf. The ballistics and rangefinder is fantastic anything inside 600 yards is dead. Im glad they went up in base mag and updated the screen. I hunt a lot of smaller fields as well I believe the XL60 with 2.5x base mag will be perfect for my needs!
